'Star Wars: Episode VII' Cast Announced
Yahoo Movies ^ | April 29, 2014 | Matt McDaniel

Luke. Leia. Han. Chewie. Artoo. Threepio. All present and accounted for as StarWars.com unveiled the official cast of "Star War: Episode VII" Tuesday.

Here's the full release:

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on Dec. 18, 2015.

While original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford had dropped hints that they would be reprising their roles for the new chapter, which takes place around 35 years after "Return of the Jedi," nothing was confirmed until today. The trio will be joined by longtime castmates Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca).

New additions include Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver, who recently appeared together in the Coen brothers' 2013 folk music drama "Inside Llewyn Davis." Also onboard: Andy Serkis (best known as Gollum in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy), Domhnall Gleeson ("About Time",) and the legendary Max von Sydow ("The Exorcist"). Fresh faces John Boyega ("Attack the Block") and Daisy Ridley (who has appeared in just a handful of BBC dramas) round out the cast.

They should have a scene where they finally kill off those two annoying robots....

They were too damned annoying in the prequals...

Amazing! Apparently they are going to use audio samples of Frank Nelson for the newest irritating Star Wars character...

I heard that Abrams wanted to replace John Williams as the composer, but Williams put his foot down. At least there will be some decent music to listen to.

The last good Star Wars movie was Return of the Jedi. I tried to watch some of the other string-one, but could never get through them without falling asleep.

Lucas did that in 1977, about a minute after the movie started..................

Whoa...

Carrie Fischer looks like Nancy Pelosi in this picture!!!
http://static1.purepeople.com/articles/4/29/34/4/@/200618-carrie-fisher-637x0-3.jpg

Not sure when it was taken, but she gained a lot of weight, and then probably LOST a lot of weight rapidly to appear in this film.

Looks drawn, and ... worn down.

But definite Pelosification going on there...

Max von Sydow? Where's they dig him up?

I had to visit IMDB to make sure he wasn't just being digitally recreated for his scenes...

Sorry for the threadjack, but for parents of kids growing up way too fast, the movie About Time referenced late in the article (starring Domhnall Gleeson) is fantastic.

That is in keeping with the first SW — a bunch of unknowns (Harrison Ford really only had American Graffiti).

These people will soon be richer than the dreams of avarice.

Even Eps 1-3, as much as they were “hated” by SW purists made billions.

This movie is going to have a banal story, poor dialog, and amazing 3d special affects. You’ll see space debris and green lasers flying all across the screen. You’ll leave the theater after 2 hours and wonder where all the creative storytellers went.

A Star Wars movie without Darth Vader is like a Pink Panther movie without Inspector Clouseau.

Took my grandmother to the theater to see Return of the Jedi.

She loved the speedbike chase scene through the trees on Endor. She talked about that for days afterwards, was amazed at real it seemed.

She was 80 when she saw that. Was like a little kid seeing a movie for the first time. A very fond memory of mine.

I have a feeling the movie will concentrate on the new cast and the “old timers” will only appear for continuity and to pass the baton to the new generation, ala Spock (Leonard Nimoy’s version) in the Star Trek reboot.

See my post at #9 - I think that one is a more recent pic of her.

Looks like Pelosi; she lost a lot of weight.
