Normally called an “edit” function, and I would like to see it on FR .I have no idea how much of a tech challange it would be at this point.
It would be nice as I fat finger things all the time. But then history gets rewritten. Which is why I think JR does not allow it.
I would rather posters here live by the words they choose to write. I would rather we actually review what we write BEFORE we hit post.
Let my ramblings remain, warts and all.
The original purpose of FR was to freeze the Presstitutes’ words in place, because they made secret edits to their stories when they get in trouble. It would be rather hypocritical for us to edit our posts when we hold the Lamestreamers to their words.
Even if it only allowed strike-through and insertion, in order to preserve the context of subsequent comments, it would be very welcome.
Another simple (?) feature would be a double post detector/preventer.
I guess it would be too easy to say one thing and then change it and say, “I didn’t say that”
I prefer it the way it is now. Yes, there have been times I wished I could’ve pulled back a mistake. But I think it just makes me more careful ( even though I still make mistakes). But the big benefit is both you and your sparring partner are 100% committed to the words you say. You can’t slander somebody then quick take it back. And if you make a mistake, you can always issue an amendatory post as followup. I know there are various compromise schemes, but this is certainly easy for the FR team to maintain, and it serves the intended purpose as is.
This is series.
The changes of those articles are not changes of opinion in that case, but changes I think are critical to the meaning of what I posted or grammatical changes. They are not huge changes, but important, and a moderator there has never failed to make those slight changes for me if it is past those few minutes I have to change it myself.
Once on this website, I accidentally hit the wrong button and a private message went on the thread. I panicked because I couldn't take that off and a moderator did take it off but I would have liked to have had the option to do it myself immediately.
That is what the moderators are for.
If there is serious error of fact or inappropriate language, threats etc. they will pull the post. If you misspell something and need to change the title of your post if you ask real nice the mods might do it for you.
If I make an error in my posts, I will simply make another post to my original post with just the error correction in it.
Some of the fat fingered, drunken posts made her for over 13 years, have been the best, most hilarious things I have ever read. Leave it abone.
More coherent? Somewhere a Grammar Nazi's head is exploding.
Guess what? FR DOES have an edit function. The Mods use it all the time. I think they would use that function here and simply delete your 4th grade style of writing, but are instead leaving it up to amuse us.
There is a class of Freeper that, when argued into a corner, will take a typo as an excuse to make an ad hominem on their supposed tormentor and crow as if they’d scored a point.
An edit feature would short cut this antisocial behavior.
You need staff.
No. Nothing wrong with usinglater replies to correct oneself. Shows the thinking process- which is usually beneficial.
I loved it before spell-check, knew right off who was a loonie.
I would settle for being able to review the post’s title, along with the content of our posts which we currently can review for hitting submit.
Be nice to have a Free Republic App too
I do not like to be so picky but there is/are an ‘amend’ or ‘edit’ feature on FR: All you have to do is to submit a post or private post to the “Admin Moderator” ;-)
Evewn in the middle of the heat of mindful typing, and ticker-(tpaes) -tapes in the mind chatter off what will become printed words, take a breath, re-read what you have typed, check for errors, make sure your context is clear to blurry-eyed readers.
THEN, and ONLY THEN, check the “I have reviewed” box, and click the “POST” button.
(The reason I used ‘ticker-tapes’ is because as part of my early military duties, I operated one of those remote teletype/computer input machines, with a ‘quick message’ ticker-tape impact printer on the side of it.)
I’m just happy when this web site actually loads it’s pages in a timely fashion, it’s been pretty good for a while now..
