This happened to me on SR 41 in Tampa on Monday March 24th. This pathetic excuse for a human being tailgated me for about three minutes. After about a minute, and me shaking my head, I pulled out my phone and started recording. I couldn't move over because there were trucks in the right lane, and I sure as heck wasn't going to speed on a rainy day with the roads being as slick as they were. I was turning left in about a half-mile when this happened. Now bear in mind, that this guy had already passed a truck in a left turn lane, was tailgating and driving recklessly on a wet slick road, wasn't paying attention, and all in all being an ignorant ass. Not once was I mouthing off, I never brake checked him, and in fact until I watched the video after the accident I didn't even know he shot a bird at me because I wasn't looking at him at all, I was paying attention to the road while holding the phone up with my right hand. I've recorded circumstances like this before, catching idiots doing stupid things, but never ever had this happen.
He initially fled the scene of the accident, but thanks to this video he has been caught and charged. Massive props to the Sheriffs Department and most especially the Highway Patrol who responded to the scene. This moron could have easily killed somebody with his moronic behavior, and my laughing at the end would have been replaced with tears. Needless to say though, I've never seen Karma come back so fast.
*****EDITED TO ADD******
WOW! I go to work and come back to over 600,000 views and find it's on theblaze.com and various other media sites. I'm flabbergasted! (love for an excuse to use that word). I'm also a little saddened and shocked at some of the comments. After the umpteenth death threat and billionth time being called a b!#$h/c$%t/whore/slut/add whatever epithet you want... I am extremely amazed at how rude people are.
Apparently people seem to think that they were right there and know exactly what was going on. You weren't there. You don't know what happened other than the truth that I told. And apparently I did get a comment of someone who he had done this same thing to... thank you for that.
I appreciate the comments of those that, even if they disagreed with me, they didn't resort to bullyish behavior, they stated their response and I respect that. To those that wished death upon me, I truly hope your life isn't as miserable as you portray online. Because some of those comments belong to people that belong in a psycho ward, or at the very least, anger management/therapy. They were rude, uncalled for, and just downright mean.
So because of those hateful warmongers, I have disabled all commenting on this video. Have fun talking about me in your forums, and on Reddit, or wherever else you talk smack on. Just know... I won't be there. I think my ears are itching... somebody must be talking about me. Where's my Q-Tip?
Goodbye and have an awesome and amazing rest of your day. I'm gonna go pet my dog, feed my fish, watch some TV, and sit my "fat" self on my sofa ;)
why the hell not get out of his way?
You said you didn’t brake check him but you were going 50
when people come up on you like that, it means move over to the slow lane
I learned as a student driver “Always yield to the road bully”
I am surprised you didn’t get charged
Just saw the video. It epitomizes why more states are trying to enforce the “passing lane blockers” laws. It will reduce road rage and allow guys like the guy in the truck to speed and get speeding tickets.
And on a side note, if this road hog had pulled out of the passing lane there would have been no road rage.
And yes, I saw in the video that the guy recording it was doing 55. The person had no business being in that lane. If they didn’t want to speed up to get past the trucks they should have slowed down to pull in behind them. But remaining in that lane, blocking traffic was not only dangerous, but quite illegal in Floriduh.
I hate left lane campers. Probably a sanctimonious liberal who thinks everyone should drive 55.
Put the damn phone away and just drive!
The guy was a jerk, however so was the driver who shot the video. Tailgating? Not exactly. She’s a left lane sitter, a control freak, probably does her rolling roadblock routine all the time, cellphone at the ready. Sounds like an alternative sort too, from her voice.
Perhaps you did not see the comment...” I was turning left in about a half-mile when this happened.”
Hard to say, since I was not there, but if I plan to turn left off a highway shortly, and I’m doing 55 in the rain, I’m not moving right unless it’s an emergency vehicle.
I cannot begin to count the number of left lane blockers I’ve come across lately....they’re epidemic around here. Either they’re self-righteous nannies who are determined to set the pace for everybody else, and they give you a sneer as you pass them on the right.....or they’re weaving all over the road and yapping on a phone.
Excellent.
Wow...that fishtail showed how slick the roads are when raining/wet. Did he take out a light pole? I couldn’t tell.
I watched the video.
The dude in the truck was bring a 100% dick.
He matched speed with the driver so he purposely give her an extended middle finger salute before he sped away....and then immediately wrecked his truck because of the SLICK CONDITIONS (which was WHY the lady was going a bit slow).
Also, the woman could NOT get to the right lane because there was another truck in THAT lane. The jerk in the tailgating truck chose the split-second he got clear of the vehicle in the right lane to pass.
He was a (bleeping) idiot.
That video is like a Rorschach test for ***holes.
Both drivers are idiots, but somehow most people pick a side.
All we need to know. Right here. I'd throw the book at THIS DRIVER - for being a freaking idiot, causing an accident and for 2 or 3 other charges as well. This moron should lose his license permanently.
Jackass meets self-appointed “hall monitor”
I suppose the video guy has never been in a hurry to get anywhere. Talk about an inconsiderate, self-righteous {expletive}...
Sometimes...there IS sweet justice in the world.
Thanks for posting.
“why the hell not get out of his way?” The right thing to do.
Oh the road was really slick etc etc and other inane excuses. I’ve seen and experienced lane blockers like this who are just doing their thing at the expense of others. Courtesy may or may not be honored, but it doesn’t hurt to give way to others who’s driving style may not be like yours instead of glorying in your ability to piss people off or worse cause an accident.
It was damp. If it was raining at all it was more like mist. No standing water. We’re talking Florida, here. They’re running tires designed to channel water. Roads seldom go for long without being thoroughly drenched, washing away the oil and film that can accumulate in dry climates, making a wet road extremely slick. The woman shooting the video provoked this, imho. The law requires that vehicles move right to allow overtaking vehicles to pass. Multilane roads are designed for this purpose. It’s not pick a lane on a conveyor belt while you yap or fiddle with features on your infernal beebers, or dig around in your pocketbook, or whatever other stupid things people do behind the wheel of a car. It’s also not there for marking territory, which is what this woman was doing just as surely as if she’d cocked her leg on any traffic that dared to pass her.
Agreed. The road is slick and the woman driving is turning on her phone camera, holding it up with one hand and aiming it at the dashboard, behind herself, and to the right of herself.
Goes without saying the truck driver is an idiot.
I picked up on that as well - the turning left soon remark. But...
When we read that she had been tailgated for over three minutes and that she had plenty of time to get her cell phone and record this incident - we see her excuse that she was going to turn left soon anyway is no excuse at all.
This beyotch went looking to create a problem. And boy did she.
