Today's feature is Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1935 "innocent man on the run" thriller whose essential theme he later reworked in 1942's "Saboteur" and 1959's "North By Northwest".

Great film. We have long enjoyed the set of Hitchcock’s British films — first in VHS, then DVD; I don’t think we own any of his American films.

Watched this recently off the Internet Archive. Superb movie. Not as well refined as the films of Hitchcock’s “Hollywood” period, but still well worth watching.

Guess you'll have to watch it.
The underappreciated Donat is almost always worth a look.

One of his very best, IMO.

Yes, an excellent movie—like almost all of Hitchcock’s movies.
I’m also a fan of the novel, which was the first in the Richard Hannay series.

I have a question. The sound on this movie is so low I have to strain to hear it. This is true for some other videos too, but certainly not all. The sound on my computer is set to the top and I pushed the sound up on the movie as far as it would go. Is there something else I can do to make the sound louder? And, my hearing is fine so it’s not me. :o)

I guess the easiest way to boost sound is to use headphones. I’ll do that when I watch this movie. Is there hardware of some kind to add to computer to boost sound or would that be buying external speakers to plug into computer some way? I’m not up on connecting outside anything to this laptop computer. It’s a fairly new computer bought in 2011, a Toshiba recommended by my computer repair guy when my Dell computer totally died.

For a long time, this film was shown in crappy public domain prints with poor sound. It doesn't help that it's a fairly early talkie. The recent Criterion release on DVD and Blu-ray has very good sound.

Try to find a compressor/limiter plug-in to run the audio thru. This is a software version of the gizmos they use to make commercials louder than the program materiel. On the downside you will raise hiss and other noise at the same time. The plug-in would be loaded by the program playing the movie.
