Two scientists in Portugal announced on Wednesday that they have identified the largest carnivorous dinosaur ever found in Europe, a 33-foot-long (10-meter-long) brute called Torvosaurus gurneyi that was the scourge of its domain in the Jurassic Period.

Bones with stories… the bones may be real but the story (maybe?) constructed to get headlines and funding may not be. As we have learned with Global Warming (Climate Change when it gets cold)… “Scientists” can get very creative when pursuing money, fame and ideology gets confused with science. Justathought and a small measure of skepticism, which used to be part of what was once known as the scientific method!

That's information aplenty yielded from some bones in the dirt. How do they know it was a predator and not a scavenger? How do they know it was not an omnivore? How do they know it was not strictly a herbivore, for that matter.

It may have been covered with hair or a leotard, for all we know. Conjecture and guesses.

Teeth. Most carnivore teeth are unsuited for a diet of vegetation.
A predator needs teeth suitable for killing prey, not just eating meat. And the teeth suitable for eating veggies are not the same teeth suitable for meat eating.

I’m with you on the assessment of skulls, teeth structure and likely diet. However, it is not 100% certain, and it irritates me when conjecture is stated as fact by so called scientist. If they would simply condition it with “we believe” or “I think” or “it is reasonable to assume”, we would all enjoy the opportunity to exercise our critical thinking skills. However, when stated as fact, especially to schoolchildren, they accept it verbatim, and fall into all sorts of error and wacky beliefs. Fairy tales like abiogenesis, global warming and liberalism are destroying this once great nation.
Sharp teeth to cut and hold, flat surfaces to grind. The more vege diet, the more flat teeth, the more strictly carnivore, the more sharp teeth only.
If there are only a few flat teeth, can be Omni, but need at least one set of flats to grind. If there are no flats, cannot grind. So, if no flats, then needs to ferment to eat veggies, cannot grind to increase surface area of the food.
I'm with you on the generalities of tooth structure and diet. However, not all herbivores masticate.
For examples, many bird species eat seeds whole, and digest them in their gizzards with various hard bits like rocks, shells, etc.
