It happened at a Cracker Barrel, of all places. As the security camera shows, Dailey entered the restaurant on Feb. 7 for an early lunch. At about the same time, 8-year-old Myles Eckert came in with his family.
Myles was very excited. He'd just found a $20 bill in the parking lot. He'd started thinking of what he could spend it on.
"I kind of wanted to get a video game, but then I decided not to," Myles says.
He changed his mind when he saw the guy in uniform.

Guys in uniform traveling for the government are are on FULL per diem and have their meals covered.
Don’t have to be in uniform to get per diem. I rarely travel in uniform due to OPSEC concerns. And if your travel on orders is just 1 day (for instance...I am flying to Seattle)...you get 75% per diem for travel days. I always calculate it like this: If my TDy is 7 days long...and I have 1 travel day on the front end and another on the back end...I take the per diem amount for the location and multiply by 6.5. that will tell me what my per diem check will be.
hmmm You sort of missed the point.
In my neck of the woods. While at work we can hear/see the Ohio Air National Guard fly over quite often. Good to see that one of their brigades just returned from Kuwait.
That photo of the young man hugging his father was priceless...and sad.
Well.... the youngster didn't offer to pay his meal tab. He gave the soldier the $20 to do with as he needed.
The soldier didn't use it on his bill. He 'payed it forward' to another deserving individual, in honor of what the child did for him.
Speaking as one who usually doesn’t care for ‘feelgood’ stories, I loved this one. Very touching.
Way to go Myles, and thank you to all our service men and women for your sacrifices.
That’s a good kid, and a good mom bringing him up right.
Read the crazy comments on CBS. Some sick puppies out there!
You can say that again.
I did. *sigh*. I guess there is always some asshat who feels obligated to slam a story no matter how touching or good. I imagine these are people who are just hate-filled Twinkles.
but guys in uniform traveling home to meet their families are not on full per-diem, and they get paid less than minimum wage.
I don’t cry easily but that photo brought tears into my eyes.
What a wonderful thing you did Myles.
But you should’ve kept $2 because Obamas IRS will be contacting you for the unreported income.
That made the monitor all blurry...
Heart warming storing for sure but does it strike anyone else as disconcerting that the kid was generous with “found” money? Does anyone teach their kids that “found” money belongs to the unfortunate person who lost it and that attempts should be made to return it to its rightful owner?
Try substituting a Greenpeace activist for an National Guard member and see if you think the kid should have kept the money.
And WTF is your point?
He found it in a parking lot. I guess he should have just stayed there asking anyone if they had lost a twenty!
No. There are ways to at least attempt to give the owner a chance to reclaim the lost money without just giving it away to a liar wrongfully claiming it.
If you're referring to turning it into the police you might as well stay in the parking lot. Or are there other methods I'm not aware of?
