Balanzoni’s lawyer, Aldo Areddu, said she still faces charges of defamation and insults, which he says were the result of escalating tension following the cat incident.

the letter of the law and the spirit of the law Collided...apparently

Agata, the cat’s name, means “agate” in Italian, so she is probably a calico.

I would say that the officer that brought the charges has a lot to learn about maintaining morale in the troops.

The doctors assistance with the cat was sought out by Italian soldiers and the base did not have a vet.

The charging officer should be counseled by his superiors on the proper use of his time.

I’m not even going to read this, to think that anyone would face charges of any kind for helping a helpless animal is infuriating.

I mean no disrespect to my friends and relatives of Italian heritage but what is the Italian military doing right now that’s more important than a litter of kittens?

Not to mention, what was the matter with the Italian Military Court that took up the case...

This took place in Kosovo— but even so... it’s not like she ignored her duties to help people and helped a cat instead.

They have an image to uphold. Could you imagine Scipio or Caesar leading a legion to tend to a queen and her kits? Heck, even Hannibal couldn't bothered. Elephant? Maybe.

Same courts who sent several geologists to prison for not predicting an earthquake.

I can’t believe that anyone would make an issue and spend money on trials and arrests and prosecutors over this petty nonsense.

My ancestry is half Italian, and I’m embarrassed two generations later.
