Sixth-grader Chloe Stirling learned a tough lesson about government regulation of small businesses, no matter how delicious they are.
The Belleville News-Democrat ran a story about an 11-year-old girl making about $200 a month selling cupcakes that apparently left a bad taste in the mouths of Illinois health officials.
Middle-schooler Chloe Stirling of Troy, Ill., quickly learned a tough lesson about government regulation on small businesses after the story ran on Sunday. Madison County Health Department officials informed her family that the pastry party was over on Monday.
They called and said they were shutting us down, said Chloes mother, Heather Stirling.
According to the Post-Dispatch, health officials informed the Stirlings that they would have to buy a bakery or build her a kitchen separate from the one we have for Chloe to continue selling cupcakes.
Obviously, we cant do that, Heather said. Weve already given her a little refrigerator to keep her things in, and her grandparents bought her a stand mixer. But a separate kitchen? Who can do that?
Chloe was charging $10 for a dozen cupcakes and $2 specialty cupcakes. "I'm saving for a bakery," Chloe said in the piece that got her into trouble.
The rules are the rules. Its for the protection of the public health, said health department spokeswoman Amy Yeager. The guidelines apply to everyone. People will react how they choose to react. But it is our job.
Chloes mother indicated she would be willing to get the necessary licenses and permits for her middle-schooler to continue operating her small business -- after a tough lesson on government regulation.
Never call the police or the press.
The rules are the rules. Its for the protection of the public health, said health department spokeswoman Amy Yeager. The guidelines apply to everyone. People will react how they choose to react. But it is our job.
Yeah Amy, we need you to protect us because, as you said, it is your job.
It should be okay as long as there was no pot in the brownies
Then land of opportunity is a thing of the past. Shattering dreams. That’s the governments specialty.
I wonder if the State wanted her to join a union too?
No, Amy, it's not for protecting public health. It's for protecting government jobs and existing food establishments.
In military kitchens, health inspections are frequent and tough. In commercial kitchens, inspections are infrequent, and shoddy.

The rules are the rules. Its for the protection of the public health,”
Words repeated by tyrants for centuries.
It is scofflaws like you and little Miss Amy that the tyrannical bureaucrats must protect the rest of us from. /sarc
This is why government should be limited. Normal people can decide how big a soft drink they want without government help. Normal people can decide whether they want a cupcake on their own. We are adults, and we don't need a nanny making those decisions for us. I wish liberals would move to some pathetic but sheltered enclave where they can be babied and leave real Americans alone to face the menace of cupcakes on our own terms.
When I was 17 I worked as a summer busboy at a hotel. The full time employees were unionized, and a union fee was deducted from my base paycheck (the rest was tips). Out of curiousity, I asked about attending a meeting, since I was paying for it. I was told to buzz off. Check one big mark in a lifetime hatred of unions and liberals.
Moving on to this young lady, I suspect she will develop a very healthy disrespect for authority and regulation as a result of this experience, regardless of how Common Core tries to mold her. It’s a relatively painless and early reality mugging, which too many of our liberal friends never get.

Same reason given for taking away the right to private gun ownership.
This issue is an example of a state properly exercising 10th Amendment-protected intrastate commerce powers. If legal voters in this state do not like their state’s policy concerning this issue, but do not work with their local and state government representatives to make a friendlier policy, then voters have nothing to complain about but their own laziness.
Thou shalt not engage in an enterprise without the Regimes permission in advance.
She should offer a public bath house for homos to have sex in by the hour.
Government sees no interest in regulating them or protecting public health.
It’s not about health concerns.. It’s about governments slice of the pie.

Who was her customer base? Her grandparenst, the neighbors or fellow students? Who turned her in? Once again, the msm has failed to include important facts.
