The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

It's 70 in my house and my plants under the lamp are growing fast and look like a major garden now.
I wonder if you have the plants on a table where cold air would be under them? Mine are on a Pergo wood floor, with an aluminum sun shade (for a car windshield), on top of the floor, then the plants are on top of that. I put the sunshield thingy there to catch any water I might spill while watering them. The only cold they would get is the ambient air in this room and it's usually between 70-75 in summer and winter.
That's 2 teaspoons each of sugar and dry yeast, 3 cups of bread flour, 1/3 cup of wheat berries, ground finely in a coffee grinder, 2 tablespoons of oil, salt, and 2/3 cup of warm water.
This is the coarseness of the wheat berries that I ground.
Combine the water, yeast, sugar, and oil in the mixing bowl and let the yeast proof.

Add the flour, ground wheat berries, and 1 teaspoon of salt to the mixer.
Mix on '3' for a timed 8 minutes.
Add water slowly over 2 minutes to bring the dough together where it cleans the bowl.
You don't want sticky dough at this point. If you add to much water (go slowly) add flour until the dough looks like this.

Form a ball, and let dough rise, covered, until it doubles in size.
Shape into a round loaf, turn out onto parchment paper dusted with cornmeal. Dust top of loaf with flour, and allow to rise.
After the dough has risen, slash the loaf as desired. Remember, this is a rustic loaf. It doesn't have to be pretty.

Because the oven I use is convection, I start the loaf loosely covered with foil. I bake at 350F-375F for 30 minutes, taking the foil off for the last 12 minutes or so, and turning as required to get an even browning.
I turn the baked loaf out onto a cooling rack and let rest for at least 3 hours before cutting.

I made some zoodles..well, half yellow squash, and half zucchini, then because I didn't firmly attach the suction cup feet, I knocked the zoodle filled bowl on the floor..
I am heading back to the produce market for more zucchini and yellow squash.
BTW, I used the blade with the bigger sized triangle shaped holes. Great fun cranking them out..Some were about a yard long.. Not so great, knocking them all off onto the floor.

It’s been nice here, the last 2 days. According to the weatherman, the rain, sleet, icy conditions were going to begin around College Station and south. It’s nice here, but a bit cool. Tomorrow we’re supposed to have 40 mile an hour winds. Will have to check my “sheeted” keyhole garden.
Still no rain or sleet or snow or anything wet for the month of January.

It’s 43. warmer and sunny, forecast 25 tonight and 61 and sunny tomorrow. Glad the nasty winter stuff is over, for now anyway.
Just got back from town and found my slicer at the back door. I should’ve gotten something to slice, but my mind was elsewhere.

The best thing I ever gave away. It had been taking up valuable space in my garage. The grands asked me last year(’12) at Christmas why we didn’t have a tv “because we don’t have time to watch it”

Since my seed sprouting chamber went down to 51 last night, I added a second 100w light to bring the temps up a bit.
I am not using my normal seed sprouting incubator that I have on my homepage. I is in need of a serious overhaul or building a 2.0 version with better fasteners. We had some chrome wire shelves that we use for container plants on the back porch in the warm weather. I snagged one set that was long enough, hung a pair of lights on it, put the seed cups one shelf down, and one shelf down from there I put a surface mount light fixture with a 100w bulb, then covered it all with plastic sheeting. 51 is too low for seed starting, they like warm soil, so I added a second 100w light, and will track the temps now. I expect it to get pretty cold tonight because we have a clear blue sky and forecast of 25. If it went to high teens, I would not be surprised.
No tv here either. Has never been a priority.

This is nothing new for me. Most of my life I did want one. I bought a big one in the late 90’s to watch NASCAR races, then when I backed away from that, I retired the tube to the garage. I see all of what I want of the races online, the highlights of whatever happened and who won. I get the whole story of the 3.5hr race in 5min. Meanwhile, I’m outside in the yard with my wife and loving it.
Yep. I’ve never even watched a nascar race nor been burdened with paying for satellite, cable or whatever the other options are...Live life.
