Childless couples ‘have the happiest marriages’…but mothers are happier overall than anyone else

Many married couples cite the birth of their first child as the happiest day of their lives; but childless couples are in fact more happily married than those who have children, a study has found.

The project has found that people without children are more satisfied with their relationships and more likely to feel valued by their partner.

The study, by the Open University, involved interviews and surveys with more than 5,000 people of all ages, statuses and sexual orientations. When people were asked to rate the quality of their relationship those without children emerged as happier overall. […]

Yet when asked to rate how happy they were with their lives in general, there was a gender divide. Mothers were happier overall than any other group, while childless women were the least happy. By contrast, men with children emerged slightly less happy than those without. …

Nothing like a deliberately-skewed study.

That is hilarious.

Does anybody find it surprising that MEN are happier in a childless marriage than one with children? (BTW, this is a generality obviously — many men are much happier with children, I know I was happier when we had children, but clearly a lot of men just like getting sex whenever they want, being the full boss of the house, and not having extraneous responsibilities).

I wonder if the men who said they were happy childless were also men who were happier if their wives had jobs, which again would take the pressure off those men to be useful.

But the real message is that women are happier with children, which of course contradicts the primary message of feminism, echoed by the President, that children are a burden to women, a medical condition that needs to be prevented at all costs.

Underlying study.....Faggots and lesbos are happy marriages. They’re also most likely, marriages of convenience. Ask Ellen how that works.

A mother and child are the only TRUE bond.

Men love their children, too. Especially when they're big enough to take out the garbage, shovel snow, cut the lawn...

With men, I think there would be a distinct difference between whether they are happier with their life with children, or happier with their marriage with children. My life is much happier with my children, but my relationship with my wife less so. Not that I am unhappy with my marriage, but there is little time for romance, intimacy and yes, sex. So the relationship tends to focus on our roles as parents rather than as spouses.

How about childless couples who have pet(s) as surrogate children? Do the ‘mothers’ feel the same way?

It appears to have been a British study, and the government there is very interested in getting the native British birthrate down as low as possible so the Muslims can become the majority more quickly.

“5,000 people of all ages, statuses and sexual orientations”.

In other words, half the people were lesbians and MSMs. Yeah. very accurate I’m sure.

Conservatives need to ignore these bunk studies and have children, so we can outnumber libt7ards who buy this crap.

I agree. I love both of my kids but for circumstances beyond my control (verbal abuse and other issues) I had to leave the house. I love my children but could not live with my wife any longer. I miss my children and think about them all the time and see them as much as possible.

Hilarious true story -
I had some cousins that decided not to or were told they couldn’t have children, so they went all out on treating their miniature poodle like their offspring - pictures, accessories, the whole 9 yards.

The wife got pregnant a month later.

Great, be childless.

Kids are noisy, messy, willful, expensive and hard work. But wow, the payoff at the end is massive and fun.

Childless women were the least happy but had the happiest marriage. Whats wrong with that picture?

Sorry, I’ve seen at least two episodes of “My Cats from Hell” that over-protective young mothers (esp. first time mothers) want to remove their cats (”It is the hubby’s cats anyway.”) to a certain doomed death, just because said cats got near 5 feet within the baby/toddler!

You just know there are countless cases such cats didn’t have a chance because the fathers didn’t speak up or put their foot down. And have Jackson Galaxy to help them work things out. 100% the problems lie with the mothers (human) and not the cats’ faults.

This is so dumb. I didn’t get pregnant to make myself happy, or to make the marriage better.

I’d like to see this study done on people ages 65+ only, for a better perspective on what is actually important in life.

..involved interviews and surveys with more than 5,000 people of all ages, statuses and sexual orientations.

So the "married" homosexuals were more happy? Is that why they call themselves "gay?"

This study is a complete mish-mash of contradictory moods, feelings, and perceptions. Following this Libertine logic, we should all celebrate happiness by clinging to same sex partners and eschewing offspring, thereby eliminating our awful species in one generation. I personally choose a life with an opposite sex partner, and despite the turmoils of life, relish the happy moments that love and grandchildren provide.

Right. And how about us who have had children, raised them, and now live in a childless home (unless we choose to have the grandchildren over for a couple of days)

That really depends on the mother.
There may be a great bond...of anger abandonment and betrayal.
It has ever been thus.

Cousins...as in cousins that married each other? Or did you simply mean to include your cousin and the one he or she married as the “in law” cousin?

Cousin was the “he” portion of the equation.

They add the scores together?

Or it might be that people who don't have children (do they mean ever or just not at the moment?) have more time to work on their marriage. And the more care you lavish on something the better it is likely to be.
