there were some real words signed. just in random, nonsensical order.

I actually think this clown has done us a favor of sorts: these sign language hucksters are just for show anyway, designed to make the organizers of a given event look compassionate. It’s always been a form of applied liberalism.
I think this guy was mocking the entire charade ..a caricature of itself.
I support basic salutations as well.
Got a question. I’m sure someone out there knows the answer. Is sign language a universal language? Or, does each utilize it’s own unique signing? It seems to me that sign language would more or less be universal. But, don’t know. So, thought I would ask.
“B-E-S-U-R-E-T-O-D-R-I-N-K-Y-O-U-R-O-V-A-L-T-I-N-E”
I know ASL. There are some regional dialects.
Some signs are specific to certain regions.
I’ve often wondered that too.
“Each region’s own sign is preferred for country and city names. This may be used in conjunction with spelling and classifying for the first instance, and the indigenous sign used alone from then on.”
See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Sign
Apparently, each region/country has it’s own “indigenous” sign language.
It’s interesting because one would think there would be a natural tendancy to make an international sign language work. Apparently it’s the reverse: there is a natural tendancy to have different languages.

This seems like the perfect opportunity for something like the “Hitler learns that .....” video jokes.
I am sure SNL will do a skit along those lines.
Obama’s interpreter should be a Homosexual dressed in a pink tutu grinding his hips.
Because every time he speaks we all get screwed in the wazoo.
If SNL doesn’t have a cameo opening with Garett Morris this weekend, they’re missing a huge comedic opportunity.
Maybe in some cases, but I live in an areas with a High deaf population. We also have the only re-creation of Shakespeare's Black Friar theater. Once a season they bring in deaf interpreters for each play and get a tremendous response. Also Most of the Churches have interpreters for one service/ week. But as I said we have a very large deaf population due to having a Deaf school here.
To clarify, there are of course legitimate situations - and I’m all in favor of those - but the political events largely have this for show just like this one.
"Michelle, when you get home, you should:
-bury him up to the neck in sand,
-snip him,
-scratch his eyes out."
These days, wouldn't it make more sense, and be more of service to those whose hearing is getting bad, but who never learned sign language, to just have "closed captioning" text projected on a screen above the performers?
When Obama was speaking, he signed, “Cornhole...Reggie...party...thank you...drop cloths & vegetable oil...Michelle...watch out!”
Hmmm, maybe the dude wasn’t a fake after all.
I'm an interpreter for the deaf. The short answer is no. Each country tends to have its own form of sign language. In the United States we use American Sign Language (ASL). That being said, my deaf wife had been a volunteer to assist incoming students when she was an undergrad at Gallaudet University, and had the opportunity to meet deaf kids from all over the world. The ones from other countries had to first be immersed in ASL before they could take regular courses. She told me, however, that even though they signed differently, they soon managed to communicate to each other fairly well, using gestures. You'd be amazed.
Going a bit further, I would think there would be a market for porting “speech to text” software (like Dragon) into a mobile phone. You could even connect it to Google Glass to provide a “heads up display” so the hard-of-hearing person could look at the person being talked to, and see the text of what the person is saying.
