A 13-year-old student in Albuquerque, N.M., was allegedly arrested for burping during class.
According to his lawsuit, after he burped audibly his teacher called the school resource officer, who in turn called the authorities to have him arrested for interfering with public education.
They are using petty misdemeanor charges to arrest children in New Mexico, said Shannon Kennedy, the boys attorney.
A seventh-grader at Cleveland Middle school, he names his teacher, principal and a police officer in his civil rights lawsuit.

Because of the school shootings you have cops crawling over the schools now with weapons.
A lot of things have really lost control these days.
Miss Crabtree envisioned Spanky and Alfalfa becoming productive members of society.
It happened, back then anyway.
Things like this make me regret not going on to law school.
Or at least artillery school.
Interrupting the moment of meditation of the wonders of Obama will not be tolerated.
There is something very wrong in New Mexico
“There is something very wrong in New Mexico”
Too much Roswell?
Principal’s don’t deal with discipline now. Teachers are graded down if they refer a kid and actually the # of referrals per class is posted in some meetings. Also, you have to be wary of the racist tag, even though there are clear patterns of behavior. This means some whites really get hammered for mild behavior problems as a way to be ‘equal’. Hey, it’s the truth.
The whole system is dysfunctional and destined to collapse or blow up.
Osama's not totally useless. He's increased the average person's skepticism of government "solutions" a couple orders of magnitude at least. Course since he could give a fig about what the average person wants, I'm not sure it actually helps.
Now that this child has a “criminal record,” he will no longer be allowed to purchase a firearm when he gets old enough to do so.
So, the only option left is getting the kids arrested.
That is what we are forking over at least $12,000 per student per year for, plus the kids can't fill out an application if they manage to graduate.
They must have no actual crime in that town, if the cops can go around arresting children for the heinous crime of being obnoxious.
I think this all stems from parents/the ACLU suing schools for disciplining children; so now the schools just say OK we’ll call the cops.
The baby boomers have ruined this country; I hope the next couple of generations can straighten it out. I no longer expect to live to see it.
I accidentally farted in class once and the teacher beat the shiite out of me.
>>This is ridiculous. I suppose its possible the kid was fake-burping loudly in order to disrupt the class, but even in that case, is arrest really the way to handle things? If the kid is acting up and disrupting the class, send him to the principals office.>>
Exactly what I was thinking. Then the principal would have kept him after school and if he was a school bus rider his parents would have to arrange to pick him up. He wouldn’t disrupt class again if it caused a transportation problem for his parents.
Was the kid burping on purpose? My kids used to swallow some air and burp the alphabet.
We still have corporal punishment in our schools. We are just a bunch of red neck hicks ya know?
Actually, if these children were handled correctly from day one in Kindergarten, corporal punishment would not be necessary for 99%.
They like attention and praise. If you want to see a behavior repeated, just notice it. Praising the behavior increases the effect.
That’s where most teachers go wrong. They get busy with stuff, and ignore the kids until someone misbehaves, then they get noticed.
The more they are noticed, the more the behavior continues. True, the kids will quit when scolded, but they’ll do it again later.
If a kindergarten kid is talking, just noticing that the person sitting next to him is quiet and acting like a grown up kindergartener is enough to shut his mouth. Once quiet, he gets noticed too, and feels good instead of chastised.
Show me a problem student in Middle School and he was likely noticed for all the wrong reasons during his early school years, until bad behavior became a habit.
Now and again, you do run into a Missouri Mule type - the need the corporal punishment just to get their attention. From then on, it works with them too.LOL
Probably, but so what? How does that explain the cops showing up? If you were the cops and the school called with this 'issue', even if there were no actual crimes taking place, would you say anything other than "Buzz off. I'm in the middle of a donut here!"
