A 13-year-old student in Albuquerque, N.M., was allegedly arrested for burping during class.
According to his lawsuit, after he burped audibly his teacher called the school resource officer, who in turn called the authorities to have him arrested for interfering with public education.
They are using petty misdemeanor charges to arrest children in New Mexico, said Shannon Kennedy, the boys attorney.
A seventh-grader at Cleveland Middle school, he names his teacher, principal and a police officer in his civil rights lawsuit.

homeschool/new mexico ping.
If he had aids and spit on the class they would have pinned a medal on them.
Strange world.
Lol, I give detentions for burping and farting in class.
30 minutes copying from a dictionary.
Are we sure there’s not more to this story? Beyond belief if not.

This is ridiculous. I suppose it’s possible the kid was ‘fake-burping’ loudly in order to disrupt the class, but even in that case, is arrest really the way to handle things? If the kid is acting up and disrupting the class, send him to the principal’s office.
Authority must not be disrespected.
I almost guarantee there’s more. The first story always has a follow-up with more of the truth.
The difference between public schools and feces is that feces can be turned into something useful.
My best friend’s mom used to be a Jr. High teacher. She used to complain about this one boy who would fart all through class. It was nasty because he would stink up the whole room. I guess there was nothing she could have done other than give him D-hall or make him sit in the hall during class but this? Schools really have lost control.
Government schools are gulags.
Read on in the article!
“The same day this lawsuit was filed, a similar suit was filed on behalf of a 7-year-old autistic boy alleging he was hand cuffed to a chair for acting out.
Last year Kennedy said she settled a class action against the City of Albuquerque Police Department for arresting children for nonviolent crimes.
This suit was started by a girl who was arrested for not wanting to sit next to the stinky boy in class. We settled the damages claims for a confidential amount that is sealed, said Kennedy.””
Sounds like the teachers really have no control of the classroom. Or any self control at all.
The best advice I ever got from a veteran teacher was “If you tell a student you’re going to throw them out of a window, you better leave the window open and be prepared to do it.”
Most students don’t like classrooms where they can’t learn because of the 10% of kids that are trying to stop them.
when miss crabtree was teaching spanky and alfalfa in the little red schoolhouse, do you think she envisioned the militarized, unionized monstrosity that is public education today?
Perhaps there should be a few teachers union leaders arrested!
Course this is the state where they gave a guy a colonoscopy and multiple digital rectal exams looking for drugs after he rolled a stop sign, all performed under an expired warrant in a county where it was never valid in the first place, AND THEN SENT HIM A BILL FOR IT!!!!
