The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Happy Black Friday to all. I hope everybody enjoyed their Thanksgiving day.
We did not cook, but were invited to the home of a young family in our neighborhood for dinner. They have a baby that was born with colon problems that keeps her sick most of the time. We met at a fundraiser BBQ dinner a month ago, and that young family just “took” to us for some reason, probably because of my wonderful wife. They invited us over and we accepted on the condition that my wife was mobile that day after her knee surgery on Wed.
If we had stayed here, we would have invited you over, Marcella.
“If we had stayed here, we would have invited you over, Marcella.”
I appreciate the thought, rightly.
We were invited a couple of weeks ago, so I never mentioned it. Wasn’t real sure what would happen after her surgery on Wed. We made pulled pork on Tuesday night to cover us over the weekend in case we needed to take it easy.
Bandages came off about noon, no swelling.

I need to tell you I am deathly allergic to shrimp, crab, and clam. It’s on my medical records not to put iodine on or in my body.
I have a permanent white spot on the forearm of my right arm where they put iodine under the skin to test that at a hospital before they did a test that required iodine. My flesh there within a few minutes started dying, it rotted away down through all three layers of skin and into the “meat” of my arm. It had to grow back from the bottom up so they couldn’t put a stitch in it. I was enrolling students in a school where I was a counselor and I put a band aid over that place because it made me look like junkie.
I can’t use any hair preparation that has anything from the sea in it, like kelp or something like that - there must be iodine in anything in the sea. That happened one time with a hair shampoo and my whole skin turned red and I had chills for three days plus nausea. When my scalp started burning at the beginning, I got in the shower and scrubbed my scalp to get it off me but it was already in my system so it didn’t stop the rest of my skin from turning red.
If I go to a beauty shop I take my own shampoo and conditioner.
They asked me if I was allergic to iodine when I had several CT’s during my catastrophic health crisis a while back. They inject an iodine dye in the veins and take another CT.
