ESSEX, March 5, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Jill Recknell is mourning the loss of her grandson, despite the fact that he is alive and well. Its just that, according to five-year-old Zach Avery and his parents, hes not her grandson anymore. Hes her granddaughter.
Zachs family, who live in England, says that he was a normal boy up until last year, when he became obsessed with the cartoon character Dora the Explorer and started dressing in girls clothing. Zach before becoming a "girl."
He just turned round to me one day and said, Mummy, Im a girl, Theresa Avery, Zachs mother, told the Daily Mail, when the family went public last month with Zachs story. I assumed he was just going through a phase and left it at that. But then it got serious and he would become upset if anyone referred to him as a boy.
After a psychologist diagnosed him with Gender Identity Disorder, the family has asked everyone to treat him as a girl.
Theresa and her husband Darren say Zachs school has been really supportive. They have told his fellow classmates that their son has the body of a boy, but the brain of a girl. The school created gender-neutral lavatories for him, and the family hopes he will be able to use the staff toilets when he gets older.
But Recknell, Zachs maternal grandmother, says she cannot get on board.

Id rather see him kicking a football than parading in a pink dress, she told People. He was born a boy. It says so on his birth certificate.
The situation, she says, has made many of the normally joyous aspects of being a grandparent painful for her.
Grandmothers love seeing photos of their grandchildren growing up but I could never bear to look at a picture of Zach pushing a pram or cuddling a Barbie, Recknell told the news service.
Gift-giving occasions are particularly difficult, she confided: I could never bring myself to send a doll or girls clothing it would seem so wrong.
The whole situation is heartbreaking for me to be honest and has left me in tears, added the grandmother of seven.
Recknell is not the only family member with reservations. Her son, Jay, says that his nephews transformation has divided the family and raised concerns about Zachs parents decision to go public.
According to the Daily Mail, the Averys are now negotiating with a tabloid newspaper to sell Zachs story to them.
Zachs story comes amidst reports that the number of young children being labeled transgendered is on the rise, with clinics even catering to such children and providing treatment that can involve being administered puberty-blocking drugs to stop the onset of puberty, and subsequent hormone therapy to help the child look like the opposite sex.
In one famous case reported on last year, a seven-year-old boy who now says he is a girl was allowed to join the Girl Scouts.
Many of the shows have awkward, bumbling boy characters who are manipulated or shown up by the girls.

I suppose that just mirrors the way the relationship between the sexes has been portrayed on TV aimed at adults. Seems like the 1970s is when I first started noticing commercials and programs portraying men as incompetent dolts interacting with bright, confident women.
Never have been much of a TV watcher, but I remember not liking what I saw. I am convinced now that all of this was the result of calculated efforts to undermine the family.
I’m single.
OH ?
This is a mental disease and mental disorders are catching, keep the children away from them.

There are no shortage of enablers of sick minded people these days, everyone from the medicine man, to the plastic surgeon, to the tatoo guy to the media, to his friends and admirers encouraged this man to go deeper and deeper into his pathology. In another way, didn’t Michael Jackson have a somewhat similar problem with his appearance? He started out as a normal looking person and ended up looking like a freak. Are there no ethics laws in plastic surgery? Well, considering that they mutilate men to make them look like women and vice versa, I guess the answer to that is no.
Notice how all the super hero women look like models, they fight and are as tough as men but you never see one of them getting any kind of disfiguring injury such as a broken nose, black eye or teeth knocked out. Television’s version of reality.
In other times a mother who dressed her boy as a girl would be considered an abusive mother, now she will be treated as the proud mother of a transgendered child. Don’t change the mother—no change the boy’s body.
I think that this is a problem of a parent projecting onto the child. I can see how a divorced woman can feel abandoned by her husband and then tries to turn her son into a girl so that “she” will never leave her mother. It could also be a case of a deep seated anger against men. But you can’t even consider that possibility these days as that would be considered homophobic.
A breath of fresh air and reason in this whole discussion.

1. It's all about money, isn't it? Nothing has changed in the human condition:
money,
power,
fame and
status.
Those are the four "scarce resources" for which all humans (except you and me, of course) compete for.
2. Freak describes his new face. So sad. I used to teach aerobics and used his music. It was FABULOUS music.
I used his music because NO ONE could NOT move to it.
3. Ethics? Why would there be more of fewer ethics today, 10,000 years ago or in Michael Jackson's time? NOTHING has changed in the human condition. We are healthier, more educated, more technologically sophisticated but are we happier, nicer, better humans?
I guess the answer to that is no.
Off the topic: I saw "Man of Steel" (yet again) on the plane coming home last night and it occurred to me that it was so very popular because we NEED a hero like him. He shows us how we could be, morally. It's fiction, OF COURSE, but it's a model.
GORSH and GEE WHIZ!!!! Is he gorgeous or what!!! :o):o)
Is there a Pedro the Explorer? No? I rest my case. Despite the mythical “war on women”, in the West men are denigrated in most areas of public life, treated as fools by the advertising industry, the “justice” system is stacked against them, (Family Court, anyone?) ,and it is just plain thought to be quite un-cool in many circles to be male. This propagandizing starts EARLY, so it’s hardly shocking that many (especially white, upper middle class to upper class) boys are putting on dresses!
How many GIRLS wish they were BOYS? Notice a pattern here?
“..... she confided: I could never bring myself to send a doll or ...”
CONFIDED? How do you confide to a newspaper or magazine or tabloid?
I don’t even want to think about how I would handle (or not) a grandchild claiming to be transgender. I DO think many kids go through what this boy did, but the parents get it worked out quickly and privately. They do NOT sell their kid’s story to a tabloid. Poor granny.
His parents are T.S.T.L.
How intolerant of this grandma! How judgmental! How hateful!
” They do NOT sell their kids story to a tabloid. Poor granny.”
Really Granny should be wondering what she did wrong as a parent to raise kids that would do this to her grandchildren.
granny is correct, he is not a girl
Can you imagine the pressure this kid is going to feel from his own parents, teachers and others if he ever changes his mind? I doubt they let him
