Is there anyone that would like to go back to the medications of the 1800’s or for that matter even the early 20th century before vaccines, anti-biotics and all the childhood diseases before vaccines for killer diseases of children. When I was young, parents feared their children would contract polio and die or live life crippled or in an Iron lung...There are some people that just get hysterical about medications without real knowledge. I remember when Valium was made a big bugaboo but you will find it in every crash cart in the hospitals.
There are bad apples in medicine like any other profession, but to let them determine what is good or bad medication is nuts. Dr. Feel good is few and far between. One of the problems is that pharmacology and politicians greasing each others pockets is corruption. I think more so on the political side. Lets face it, politicians are easily corrupted. And government regulations are one of the reasons it takes so long and cost so much for new drugs to come on line...
This is a fear mongering article. Garbage.
Still these people basically have to prove they are not addicted before they can get a refill.
The really sad cases are the people who are terminal. "I have six months and they are worried about my becoming an addict? Really?"
What’s wrong with the painkillers of the late 1800s? You took your cash into a pharmacy and bought all the cocaine, pot, or natural opioid that your desires and budget allowed. No cops. No doctors.
This man made stuff is more dangerous. It’s main purpose is to make work for a lot of busybodies like the FDA and DEA, while inuring the American citizens to the trashing of their constitutional freedoms in order to allegedly control drugs.
All this BS springs from the Social(ist) Gospel of denying individual rights for the individuals’ own good. Good according to whom is the question! Substance prohibition or alleged control is no more moral than confiscating the fruits of labor for another’s benefit, whether called slavery, robbery or taxation.
Boy howdy, you said a mouthful right there. You are so right.
On Christmas Day 1990 I suffered a ruptured disk and the pain was so intent that I could not walk or stand or sit. I crawled from my bed to the bathroom. Finally, the pain lessened enough to get to a doc who gave me one round of Lortab. To cut to the chase, I managed life for the most part without pain killers. Because we travel a lot in our work, we are never in a place to establish a relationship with any specific doctor. But when I asked for pain meds, I got labeled as an addict. BTW, when I'm overseas, I can easily get serious pain medication over the counter.
Then, on March 30 of this year, 22+ years after the original accident, my back was healed. Suddenly, completely all the pain left and I'm active again.
Since I have no pain, I don't want or need pain killers.
Yeah, I was addicted alright. Like the poster upthread a bit said, "I was addicted to life without pain."
