This man made stuff is more dangerous. It’s main purpose is to make work for a lot of busybodies like the FDA and DEA, while inuring the American citizens to the trashing of their constitutional freedoms in order to allegedly control drugs.

All this BS springs from the Social(ist) Gospel of denying individual rights for the individuals’ own good. Good according to whom is the question! Substance prohibition or alleged control is no more moral than confiscating the fruits of labor for another’s benefit, whether called slavery, robbery or taxation.

Your right drugs could be bought over the counter. America was a mostly rural country with towns many miles away and no doctors for most. One could not pick up a phone or drive to the ER so pharmacy's sold drugs. Used not just for people but in some cases animals also. I believe Sherlock Holmes kept cocaine in the toe of his slipper. No synthetics but most knew what plants and flowers were medicinal. I cannot agree that man made stuff is necessarily better. A beautiful flower of mine, the Foxglove is the basis for digoxin, but it must be used strictly or it will kill you. One of the flowers to plant if you have rabbit or deer problems, they wont touch a lot of flowers, you just have to know which ones...

I do agree with your last paragraph. Medications today are a lot more powerful than herbs and plants of yesteryear and due to our longer life span, the need for drugs to deal with age illness's is important. I have used a flower from the mum family called feverfew that the leaves will stop migraine, I would roll 3-4 leaves in a slice of bread, taken at the very beginning of a bad headache and it does the trick. But using herbals can be a ...kill you quick....if you don't know what your taking.

The only time in my life when the FDA banned a drug that was used in the rest of the world was called (spelling will be wrong) it was thalidomide that caused babies to be born without arms and legs. It was used for pregnant women that had hyperemensis during their pregnancy...(uncontrolled vomiting)That I think was back in the late 50's or 60's. I think aspirin would have a hard time passing the FDA regulations because it is a powerful drug that is so common you hardly know the side effects..

There was another drug given to women that were threatening to abort (miscarry) It wasn't know until the 70-80s that it caused cancer in young females whos mother took it to try to keep a baby. My neice had to have her hysterectomy in her early 30's as did the daughter of my friend. It males cancer of the testicles started showing up in males in their 20's. One of the reason all men should check their testicles like females check their breasts for cancer. Should be done monthly...so you know what they should or should not feel like...

The synthetics allow for a more accurate dose so that the symptoms are relieved and the side-effects are minimized.

Morphine is potent and tricky to use. Hydrocodone is less potent than morphine and the differences between 5, 7.5, and 10 mgs of hydrocodone are big. You might want to consider that there are other reasons as to why some medications were developed.
