The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Yes, she did. Thanks!
Yep. Sent her a private reply.LOL. I was just thinking about you. Hadn’t run across any postings for a while. You doing ok?
Weather here is freezing tonight. I was just thinking about my fireplace, and wishing it was here in the basement with my computer and a nice crackling fire, instead of upstairs with no fire.LOL
I thought polk greens weren’t tasty unless they were young. You use the 6 foot tall plants?
Pretty!
Wow, you did a lot of work!!! Looking good!
Teeny-tiny butternut squashes are cute, too!
Thank you, I will relay the kind words to my wife.
You should see the area now, the wheelbarrow is overflowing, and the fence is barely visible because of six additional large containers with sizable plants. The fence borders a new patio area that we are developing this year.
Thanks for posting the cover crops topic.
Found it. Be neat if they had an oil change knee saver. :)
About a year ago, I had to give up changing my own oil in the fleet due to ‘knees on concrete’ pain. It was tough to adjust to paying for such a simple operation.
Word around the neighborhood this morning is there was a school bus wreck near here. Not much details yet. Pray for all involved, Please.
Beautiful!
No. We usually eat them when they are young, but we let them continue to grow, since nothing else will grow in the shade of the walnut tree. It makes a great biomass to feed the soil/compost.
We were in the freezer last night. Thermometer in my truck said 32° when I left for work this morning.
Sounds like us. There was still frost on the grass in the shady areas at 10:00 am.
“One can get over a phobia about a shot using logic and a plan. Any phobia can be overcome, it doesnt have to be permanent.”
The way I dealt with my selfie needle phobia was, “It’s this or dying - one or the other”. That worked fairly well. :)
With the injections I had to give myself, it took to the count of six (slowly) to complete the shot. The worst part was the jab. I got a bit queasy and flushed standing with the needle in my hand, poised to jab it into my abdomen. Then I’d remind myself that I had no choice, and that it wasn’t actually very painful, that the needle was very short, then somehow I managed to just get it done. I am no longer in awe of people that have to jab their thighs daily. One such thigh-selfie person told me that she didn’t think she’d be able to do shots in the abdomen, and that surprised me.
“Its this or dying - one or the other. That worked fairly well. :)”
I used to take allergy shots in my leg. I didn’t have any trouble doing that. With other hurtful things, I would tell myself, “This won’t kill me so do it and it will be over.” I figure I can go through anything that won’t kill me.
There are some instances when doing a hurtful thing is better than the hurtful thing causing you to do something. An example is, my knee was so painful and I had to use a cane that didn’t help that much, I got to the point I wouldn’t have cared if they cut it off, it hurt that much. Going in for that surgery to clean out the knee, was a pleasure - fix the knee. The level of pain after the surgery was nothing compared to the pain before the surgery.
Yeh, and it’s even colder tonight. I’ll be able to plant wheat for sure, I think. This night will be frost/freeze-not just getting close-but the real deal.
