Woman Says She Called 911 for an Ambulance for Her Fiancé, Cops Came and Shot Him Instead

Jack Lamar Roberson was shot and killed by police in his home on Friday afternoon in Waycross, Georgia. According to local TV station First Coast News, his fiancée Alcia Herron called 911 for an ambulance after becoming worried about diabetes medication Roberson had taken. Cops claim Roberson was brandishing two weapons (not identified by police, though the mayor said he was told it was a knife) and came toward them “aggressively armed”. Police also say they were informed Roberson had attempted to commit suicide and was being combative while on their way to his residence. His mother and his fiancée both witnessed the shooting, and their 8-year-old daughter was apparently in the home too.

Roberson’s mother said the family didn’t own “two decent knives” while his fiancée described the incident to First Coast News:

"He didn't have nothing in his hands at any time or period at all before they came, any time while they were here, anything. They just came in and shot him. He didn't say nothing, the police didn't say nothing, anything, it was like a silent movie. You couldn't hear anything, all you could hear were the gun shots go off and I seen them going into his body and he just fell down," cried Alcia Herron, Roberson's fiance.

Herron told the Florida Times-Union she became afraid for Roberson, believing he may have taken too much diabetes medication, though did not appear to provide more details anywhere. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting and the officers involved are on paid leave.

“The sick one was one man, on the ground 20 feet from me holding a knife.
As I am an excellent shot, I just held fire and just waited for him to drop the knife.

I waited and waited and was told the correct response was to shoot him. I was shocked.”

That’s because they did tests and found that the average person can cross twenty feet to stab you before the average person has time to draw their weapon and fire.

"Police also say they were informed Roberson had attempted to commit suicide..."

A cop in '99 told me suicide was illegal. I learned this after getting pulled over doing 60 mph in a 50 zone.

He said my high rate of speed indicated I might be a danger to myself.

True story.

Yeah, about the only time to call the police is if you are about to die anyway. Then, at least they can’t make things worse.

With gun pointed at him, however, that becomes moot...

I should think police would know a little about meds and their possible side effects, but I guess they leave that training to the paramedics.

Survivors claim they called for an ambulance/paramedics, however, LE seems to have arrived first.

And then this: Police also say they were informed Roberson had attempted to commit suicide and was being combative while on their way to his residence.

If true, and there "weren't two decent knives in the house", one wonders how was the deceased attempting to commit suicide? Think we are short on facts here.

Why do the police assume bad intentions? Is it easier for them to shoot and kill rather than stop and question?

They aren’t prosecuted for killing - they just have to say they thought their lives were in danger - the TV remote looked like a gun - the 78 year old deaf guy looked like he was reaching for a gun and not his hearing aid -

Meanwhile, you’re dead and can’t ask why they did it.

This is especially difficult for the elderly, who always trusted the police and were on good terms with them. They don’t expect the cop to assume they’re a criminal with bad intentions.

How do you explain to your dad that he must always show his empty hands to the police, and not to make sudden motions, and to drop anything he has in his hands? He will say “but I’m not a crook!”

Question: what has changed in American society that has led to this ending of trust? It’s not the elderly White guy. Hmmmmm. What could it be?

We have all the facts our betters want us to have. The important thing here is that the cops get to go home to their wives and children. It’s for the children. What’s wrong with you???

I am old, and I remember when cops were big , and tough, and not scared of anything.
They would get out a billy club and whip your butt.

Today through Political Correctness and other means they do not have to be big any more or tough and not frightened of anything.

Today they are women and short guys with tasers, and guns, with backup and SWAT gear, and shoot anything that looks like it might be dangerous.

Sometimes when a Diabetic has messed up blood sugar they can get aggressive. And Very strong.
Add a knife to the mix and it will end poorly.

Yeah, my government-furnished doctor has been working with me on that whole “thinking outside the box thing”.

With each passing day, I am increasingly reminded of the Jack Nicholson film in which his character worked in a grey concrete office with only a desk and chair, and everyone shuffled around in lines from place to place.

But, lab tests demonstrate the frog (which is many of us) jumps out of the pot before it begins to boil.

The guy with the knife was on the ground not standing. If he was on his feet or tried to get to his feet still holding the knife then I could justify shooting insomuch as he was within Tueller drill distances <21 ft. The shooter in the scenario described also had his weapon out.

“A cop in ‘99 told me suicide was illegal.”

Many years ago suicide was illegal in Texas (unless that law was repealed, it still is). I was a junior high counselor in a town and the police chief told me suicide was illegal (which I already knew), and he wanted me to inform him if any students told me they were thinking of killing themselves. I would not do that and he was pissed. A few months later, he was arrested for robbing a bank. Somehow, I saw that as poetic justice as he was removed from my world.

Think we are short on facts here.

I'd like to hear the 911 call. There's a reason why the ambulance didn't show up but the cops did. What did the wife say to get the cops there and how did they know about his attempted suicides? Many times, wives will call for cops to come arrest him but when the handcuffs go on they'll flip flop and turn on the cops. Smells like this might be one of those situtations.

Tueller drill.

Now, no doubt you are an excellent shot, but when is the last time a target at the range ran screaming at you, took four rounds and still slashed your throat?

“Sometimes when a Diabetic has messed up blood sugar they can get aggressive. And Very strong.”

In the townhouse across from me, I saw an ambulance and police car. In this town, a cop car always goes with the ambulance. The lady who owns the house is a banker friend of mine, so I walked across the street to see if she needed help of some kind. Her son in his 20s lives with her and is a diabetic and had gotten combative and she was afraid of what he might do, so she called the cops and also told them he was a diabetic. Due to that, the ambulance also came.

His blood sugar was really low, so low the paramedic said either he drinks the packaged drink they had to bring up his blood sugar or they had to take him to the hospital. According to their protocol, they could not leave him with blood sugar that low - it was dangerous to his own life and the people around him as he was out of control.

I was in the house and the young man was sitting on a sofa with the packaged drink and was refusing to drink it. He didn't speak but his facial expression was one of hatred and that's the way he looked at me when he saw me there.

I asked my friend if she was okay, and she said she was nervous. She told me she had to call the cops before this time due to this happening.

He works for UPS and can't move up to be a driver due to the severe diabetes. He is an angry young man because he is stuck in that job and can never move up.

He is a bomb ready to go off at any time.

Don’t I know that. I volunteered for a EMS and there was a cop who went into “Roid rage”.
I didn’t like having him show up on our calls because we never knew which version of that cop was going to show up.

yet, at the range we have to use targets that are either blank outlines or really STUPID cartoons of Cockroaches, Space Aliens, and Zombies.

Can’t have us old ladies practicing on pictures of real criminal assailants, now can we?
