The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

I wouldn't do that. Those seed pods are poisonous and have to be handled just so. Professionals say if one shows up on your potato plant, throw it away and don't let children or pets close to those pods.
I saw on Utube a guy deal with those, and it could have been that Tom fellow and I wouldn't do it. Your mileage may vary.

Ok. I get a better picture. I am in Branson at the conference. Just have a few minutes. This computer has such bright lights, that I have to keep one eye closed and the other turned away to the side, so I don’t think I’ll be able to last very long anyway.

That sounds good. I can usually get a few into mid October or eartly November even, but this year has been a bust for my tomato crop-starting with all the delayed transplanting due to the icky spring weather.
You need a good protein source, so maybe add some pinto beans to go with the cornbread.
Was at the store yesterday and bought two large potatoes with plenty of eyes on each one. I'll put them in a paper bag (that is okay, right?) and in the pantry and the pantry door has slats in it so there is air circulation in there. They will be in a cool and dry place.
I think I didn't plant the tomatoes right when I planted them outside in the big tomato container. I should have planted half of the stalk but I only planted the root part. My friend in Bandera has told me she talked with the landscaping company who does work on her place and he puts some Epsom salt in the hole before he plants his tomato. She will do that next time. She plants half the stalk and gets tomatoes like crazy.
I always plant tomatoes deep. That is the only plant I do that with. The stalk will grow roots if you plant it.
Epsom salts prevents blossom end rot, which I had some of in my spring tomatoes. I added epsom salts to the fall tomatoes.

I have gobs of mixed beans I bought in #10 cans professionally sealed without oxygen, and I mean I have gobs of them. I will also buy gobs of cheap dried beans at the grocery. Think I will get the ones with the packet of soup seasoning in the bag and get different ones, those with pinto, split pea, black beans, different ones like that, and they are cheap to buy. They will store for two years before they begin to dry out too much. I have a small pressure cooker big enough for beans to make them soft if they do dry out too much.
That’s a bunch easier than trying to grow them. I don’t have a huge amount of space outside and can keep my containers for other foods, not beans.

So, I need more than two potatoes if some are going to rot, which I said potatoes will do when we started talking about potatoes. I’ll get more and I won’t put the ones I got in a paper bag, just put them in the pantry “au natural”.

Good advice.
Rain gauge has an exact inch in it and that would be Tuesday, yesterday and today. I emptied it so it will measure from this morning on.
The two bottom leaves of the large squash plant have turned yellow and are dying. I just sprayed the bottom part with Neem oil. I suppose I should have sprayed that occasionally just to be sure a moth/borer couldn't take control. Hopefully, no more leaves will die but if there is a borer, the plant will die for sure. The vine is 8 feet long now.
Maybe I should have kept net over it so a moth couldn't get to it but the tendrils that attach to the plastic poles had started attaching to the net so had to take the net off. After that I wrapped it every night in row cover but it wasn't on the plant during the day so a moth could get to it. I will know soon if a borer got in because more leaves will start dying fast.
