In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

risible; adj.

1. causing or capable of causing laughter; laughable; ludicrous. 2. having the ability, disposition, or readiness to laugh. 3. pertaining to or connected with laughing.

Etymology: 1550–60; < Late Latin rīsibilis that can laugh, equivalent to Latin rīs ( us ) (past participle of rīdēre to laugh) + -ibilis -ible

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

his IT classes are not fluff, so i know he wants these cake things to help keep the GPA up. You never want to be dragged down with nonrequired classes. He also has some elective geology class on volcanoes, which is not a gut.

A surprising number of people know who John Galt is-I had an animated conversation with the manufacturer’s rep of a green construction product we are going to use-he’d just read the book for the first time, and we exchanged ideas on going Galt in our respective states...

I think you would enjoy “This Perfect Day”-it is shorter-317 pages-the way the different characters deal with the sudden discovery of the “real world” is interesting, and the just revenge taken by the hero is pleasing in that savage way of movies where you cheer the destruction of the evil-doers. Plus the relationship of Chip and Lilac is a non-smarmy, realistic love story...

I hope xsboy conquered the roux-I never have. I had a frog friend and co-worker from Canada-Quebec-who always brought delicious food to company parties-but whenever I asked her for a recipe, she’d start with first you make a roux, to which I’d reply no, first YOU make a roux...

he has cooked for himself at the house he lives in up there. I asked if he had been cooking and he said he made chicken on the foreman grill, pierogies and broccoli for dinner last week. That is a staple meal for him, he gets the pierogies from Wegmans. i am so happy that one of my kids is at least eastern european enough to seek out the cuisine!
There was a slavic fest i wanted to go to yesterday but got caught up in doing stuff around the house and didn’t make it there. There was to be halupki, haluski, pierogies etc. i was so mad that time got away from me and i missed it!

yeah, well i am not sure how that worked out for him. it’s just butter flour and milk with a bit of salt, i think?

Roux is hell in a sauté pan, no matter the simple ingredients, as far as I’m concerned...

I hope you did teach him how to cook a few things himself before he went to college.

When I had a free elective my senior year, I took a philosophy class. That’s how I know about people like Kierkegaard and Nietzsche.

Making a roux is a very tricky thing. It should be easy but it is not. I liked your response to the Frenchie.

I’ve lived this many years without ever needing a roux. I can’t imagine it will come up now.

There is a reason why McCormick makes sauce mixes.

I’ve been okay, stuck in the US because my old neighborhood in Tampico has become a war zone. Also, all the normal aging issues apply. I hope you and your family are doing well and are happy.

I like the packaged Knorr sauce mixes best, but the closest place to get them is in the ethnic/Latino aisle in the Boerne grocery-the Knorr products are there, with labels in Spanish...

I don’t know what it is with frogs and the roux thing-MrT5 was a second generation American-most of his family was in Quebec, and he thought my roux phobia was funny-on my first visit, his cousin determined to teach me to make the dreaded roux, without success-I scorched the flour, as usual...

I can even make nice, fresh hollandaise-without messing up the egg yolks, or resorting to a blender. My first attempts ended up looking like a pan of curdled rocks, but now it is easy to do-I can make bearnaise, and pesto, too, but the roux remains a mystery...

We have some small storms in the area-it just got dark and thunder crashed right overhead without warning, startling both Titus and Midget girl from their nap in the kitchen window-they both fell into the sink, all ruffled dignity-Husky girl and Yeti boy just yawned and went back to sleep here by the desk...

One semester of philosophy-and I ended up being hated by the prof-I’m sure he thought I was an idiot, but it never made sense to me at all-totally useless in real life...
