The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

Don’t remember for sure. It was either Burgess, Guerney, or Henry Fields I think. That’s a good price on those containers.
Why not bury a strawberry?
Oh wow, I don’t know. Never knew there were strawberry annuals. The regular ones have runners, and you just kinda stick the runners into the ground or another pot to get a start.
I learned about strawberries from reading about them from A&M people. The runner ones don’t do much here according to them, not recommended.
I suppose one could. I always figured the seeds would rot due to the moisture content from the strawberry, if buried.

The seeds are the little bumpy things on the outside of the strawberry so I think those would be rubbed off the strawberry proper. That would be just the seed to put in the soil.
How about Blackberries or Blueberries instead?
Me rememberses them ocean breezez...that’s why we moved inland! And broughted our Humanz wiff us, becuzz life is no gud without servantzez.
I already have the strawberries but do have a strain of blackberry plants for the south (again A&M recommended) I am going to order the plants when it’s time to order those which is later in the year. It’s the Ouachita blackberries.
Look for, or make, something like this. Sized for 25 plants, and easy to put netting over. Lots of them out their, priced from cheap to ridiculously expensive.

I agree. I find new plants, tiny plants which have germinated from berries that were allowed to dry out and the seeds found the perfect condition, soil-moisture-temperature to germinate.
My garden is at least a hundred feet from the house. I did not want to make the trip to the compost my stems, but I also did not want them close to the house to draw flies. So I dumped them in a flower pot. The next year I could not figure out how strawberry plants could be growing in a flower pot. First I thought maybe a bird left a deposit, then I remembered dumping the stems in that flower pot the year before.
Before this experience I never considered those tiny seeds would germinate.
We have some of those. Hubby ordered several varieties, so I never know which one is which-his labels rarely survive.LOL
I find that interesting, and will have to try it in the future. I was always under the impression (bolstered by suppliers of strawberry plants) that only Alpine strawberries would grow from seed.

Will do. I only ping once a week, though we post on the same thread all the rest of the week. Friday is ping day, sometime after 2 pm.
Early this spring, before I had any berries to pick, I was asked to supply a fruit tray. I had to buy fresh strawberries and so I dumped my stem waste in a flower pot on the deck. I now have several new strawberry plants ready to transplant when the weather cools.
It will take a year or two for these new plants to produce, but I always have a supply of plants.
What happened to our 2 members from Wisconsin, afraidfortherepublic and I think the other was garden girl and she worked in a nursery
dianainwisconsin is one of the 2; she runs a Jung’s garden store, and is active on the prepper & veterans threads, IIRC. She has several active postings today.

Where am I? Recuperating from knee replacement surgery. My garden is a mess — totally overgrown. I’m the only person in Wisconsin praying for an early winter so that I can get a handle on the grass and weeds.
Are you serious? You grew new strawberry plants from the stems of store bought strawberries?
