I find that interesting, and will have to try it in the future. I was always under the impression (bolstered by suppliers of strawberry plants) that only Alpine strawberries would grow from seed.
Early this spring, before I had any berries to pick, I was asked to supply a fruit tray. I had to buy fresh strawberries and so I dumped my stem waste in a flower pot on the deck. I now have several new strawberry plants ready to transplant when the weather cools.
It will take a year or two for these new plants to produce, but I always have a supply of plants.
