Tebow turns down non-QB job
Yahoo Sports - Tebow Himself ^ | Eric Edholm

Tim Tebow is an NFL free agent quarterback. Emphasis on the last word.

According to TheMMQB's Peter King, speaking Thursday night on the NBC broadcast, Tebow received an "inquiry" about joining an NFL team at a position other than quarterback. King reports that Tebow declined the request. He also has said no to Canadian football and US Rugby.

Tim, I love ya, I do. But you're not that good. You can't win as a QB in the NFL with only your legs. Hire a personal Coach and prove everyone wrong.

He’d be a good TE.

Has he ever played tight end at any level?

Maybe Tebow’s supposed to be an evangelist.

Yeah, I’m in NJ and spent a lot of time years back attending Rutgers Games with a friend. Tebow reminds me a lot of Bryan Leonard, that H-Back light TE sort of player.

If not that, then maybe a FB - but not too many teams even use those exclusively anymore. Witness the game last night with something like 800+ yards of passing combined. It’s a passing league for sure.

I don’t think so. A major part of being a TE is reading the defense, knowing if they’re blitzing and reacting properly. Tebow can’t read defenses. He could maybe be a slot receiver (almost a TE only without the possible blocking), but that’s about it.

Rush did a riff on NFL quarterbacks that are successful “option QBs” Kaepernick and RG III being the example.

Tebow is in that same line. Look for the ‘Skins to be interested.

As my mother used to say, “Beggars can’t be choosers.” It is no longer rare for players to switch positions at the college or pro level because a coach sees potential in something other than what the player did in high school or college. The NFL Seahawks are involved in a successful project to turn a player from a college running back (fullback) into a pro linebacker.

Might check out “Bullet” Bob Hayes

He’d be a good TE.

<><><><

I guess what you mean by that is that he kind of looks like a tight end. Can he catch? Can he run patterns effectively? Can he block downfield? Can he protect the QB? Can he effectively run block? In other words, do we have any evidence that he can do any of the things a tight end is on the field to do?

I don’t know that anyone has the answers to those questions.

Hayes played 50 years ago and the sport has changed since then. And it doesn't answer my question.

"Since when is he a beggar?"

He's been traded twice and released once in the last year (or was it traded once and released twice), and no one seems quick to sign him. That is verging towards NFL beggarhood. I heard Mike Holmgren - who personally likes Tebow - interviewed the other day, and he said the odds of Tebow being signed as a QB by an NFL team are not good. Perhaps someone will sign him to their practice squad, but the odds of getting a roster spot at this time are slim.

The Skins already have a backup read option QB, Kirk Cousins, son of a minister, participates in a sports ministry. He’s like Tebow only completes passes and people don’t whine he should be a starter.
