One of the leading lights of the science fiction world, editor and author Frederik Pohl, passed away this weekend after a career that defined the genre for decades...
Pohl was known for his mind-bending, often satirical novels (many co-authored with longtime collaborator C.M. Kornbluth), his editing acumen, his science fiction criticism, and his witty, fascinating blog, which he was updating right up until his death...

For other areas of life, specific skill sets are admired for what they are.

I see what you mean, but politics are expressions of moral character sets. So to me, it matters.
We were just discussing the old time pulp editors last night. They mentored the writers and they were accessible to the fans.
I had a 20-minute conversation once with John Campbell. A straightforward sort of guy, witty, well-read, polite.
Those were the days.
I think I have read one book of his something about "Quantum Cats"(?). It did not inspire me to seek out more of his work.

Awww....I head his books as a sci-fi loving teen.
RIP
lol
Suckage. RIP.
If you exclude artists for their politics you won’t be left with much.

Bet I’m not a commie scumbag global warming anti-gun idiot....grow up.
If you want to look at a blog from the last days of a man that lived 9 decades and fought communism and decide he's a commie, go for it.
It shows your depth. This is an obit. Not someone running for office.

I am posting this email from a friend who knew Fred from SF Conventions and who accompanied him on, I believe, his last trip to Lawrence KS.
“He has been a friend for over 30 years, and I’m going to miss him. Fred and I are both from Red Bank (NJ). When I was a kid. all his books that I borrowed from the library said “Gift of the author” inside the cover.
She was in San Antonio this weekend at, I believe a Jim Gunn award dinner.
He sounds like a raving nutcase...no ? His politcs are demented. I spent 5 minutes reading utter nonsense until I had enough. It has nothing to do with my “depth”. I had never heard of this individual so I took a look at HIS blog. His thinking is childish & thoughtless left-wing foolishness.
I’m sure he has some value to you & that’s cool, but when an obit of a nasty, hateful leftist is posted on a conservative site there’s going to be some blow-back. I suggest people read his blog to get a measure of the man.
You see what he is supposed to have written right before he died. I'll remember the decades of great editing he did.

His blog is a sad ending to an otherwise stellar career.

So are you saying he just went left in his 90s, lol. He sounds like a sharp old guy. His writing is clear. It seems to me that he’s just expressing his views. His personal views on politics and global warming and gun rights and fraking sound like some shallow college kid.
Love how he brings up the Giffords shooting in AZ and brings poliics into it....disgusting; and untrue of course. I stopped reading after that.
Some people's children...

Sorry your guy has been exposed. He sounded interesting so I went to his blog and was astounded by how ugly it was. He put this filth on HIS blog for all to see....it’s on him.
