The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Did the camera come with the cable thingie that connects it to the computer?
We’re using chipped pine cones. Getting rid of them helps fireproof the property, and adds acid mulch to the garden areas that need it, such as berries: limestone soils here.
Beautiful photos; thanks for posting them.
Try looking at these for a Roma type indeterminate.
Send me an address and I will mail some bulbs when they are ready. If I put your address on my calendar I will not forget later. These are the little thingys that grow on the top part of the long stem- they will put down roots where they touch ground although when I plant them I gently place them where they have good contact. Come winter they die down and the tops go to the compost- in early spring they grow again and you are good for another season.
No, they are not expensive to buy,(but free is better) but I think my great-grandfather would smile if he knew the latest generation of something he grew a hundred years ago was still being shared.
Everything has been growing nicely because of cooler temperatures. That is supposed to change next week with a rise from the 70’s to 90’s. I need to get to a garden center and see what plants are available.
“Did the camera come with the cable thingie that connects it to the computer?”
It has a USB connection and there is a CD with software. I don’t know how it works with computer yet - I should look it up on the net to find details.
Actually, it should be a cinch for you because I’ve done it. Unfortunately, I’ve forgotten my Photobucket PW lol.
Got a way to catch the bunnies that won’t make my parent’s HOA freak out?
I’ve been letting the cat chase them when she’s out on her leash. She knows how to kill them without breaking the skin, and then she brings them right to me. Good little hunter kitty! Only this year she hasn’t managed to catch one yet.

News From the Red Devil 232 Family.
Mrs. Red Devil and I just returned from a brief trip to our home in Mississippi. We loaded up my F-150 crew cab and her car with everything we could get into them to store in a storage unit.
We had to make this trip so we could leave one of the vehicles in Mississippi, as we are renting a Ryder Truck on Tuesday loading it up and driving to Mississippi on Wed.
We will have help loading the truck here in Texas. Mrs.Red Devil asked the neighbor kid (17) if he would help us load the truck for $100 and if he had a friend who could also help for another $100. He said yes. An outside contractor wanted $80/per person/hour. We needed the help because my right hip has been giving me a lot of problems recently! I expect that we can load the truck in 5-6 hours. Good pay day for the helpers. If we leave early, 3-4am on Wed. we will have 2 and a half days to unload in Mississippi before we have to turn the rental truck in.
Lots of work for us to do next week. Everything here is already boxed and labeled, except for a few essentials, and the fridge, freezer, washer and dryer. So it is a matter of just loading them on a dolly and getting it up the ramp and on the truck.
Wish us luck!
Oh by the way my fig trees are doing great. Nice breba crop that will be ready for picking soon and a great new growth crop of figs for later in August or early Sept. One pear tree will produce some nice pears for canning this fall.
Forgive me for the long post, but we also added a couple of additions to the Red Devil family. Two 8 week old mixed breed Terrier pups male and female. Pics to come soon as I can, we can’t locate our camera right now. Boy what a lively pair they are! I will have to teach them how to garden and respect the garden next year. The Pups were a gift from one of Mrs. Red Devil’s co-workers. MRS.RD after seeing them could not refuse giving them a home. Cute little critters, they are.
We will be disconnected from the internet from Monday till we can get service up in Mississippi.
Another by the way. Both Mississippi houses have passed a law and the Governor has signed a new law (effective July 1) allowing any Mississippian, who is not otherwise disqualified, to openly carry a gun, with or without a permit. A permit is still required if the weapon is concealed.
RD
Another by the way. My Alma Mater Mississippi State University (MSU) is playing UCLA in the finals for the College World Series on Monday night on ESPN. I am a lucky guy, going home, new Pups, and GO DAWGS!
Same here. And the strawberries are right in the front yard where everyone would see :/
Looking forward to the day I can move out to my farm. I’ll hunt and trap all the bunnies I want!
(Bunny stew, bunny sausage, fried bunny, bunny-on-a-bun......)
When I think about moving like you are doing, I hurt all over. I don’t have another move in me. I’ll be glad when it is over for you so I won’t think about it any more. How’s that for my thinking of me instead of you?
I’m glad you are getting back to that great garden like it was when you put pictures on here. You are truly a master.
Great gun laws!
“Send me an address and I will mail some bulbs when they are ready.”
Thanks so much for doing that - I know exactly where they are going. I’ll put some new potting soil mix in there to make them really happy.
Actually they are pretty stalwart. Of course they like good soil, but where the ancestors of these originated, they lived in the sand hills of northern Nebraska. Good watering makes for a good onion, but even at that they do well if pretty much left on their own. I guess I like them because they are a part of my heritage. But then I prefer heirlooms and open pollinated over fancy hybrids (which do have their place) to. What can I say. LOL
When you see Tubebender posting on this thread - now there is a master - he is the one to go to for onion and potato questions. I am sixty-five and he is much older with lots of energy and has been gardening for as old as I am old. I am just a wanna be green thumb.
I remember when 65 was NOT YOUNG!!!
I “think” I am young but when I start to do physical things I get old quick. Five years ago this move would have been no problem physically.
I’m pretty sure I’m older than either of you - I’m 80 but my brain doesn’t know it.
