World War Z could be the most expensive flop in cinematic history. Brad Pitt's zombie action flick has been mired by negative publicity concerning rewrites, re-shoots and an inexperienced creative team that has caused the film's budget to increase from $170million to a reported $400million. Based upon Max Brooks's science fiction novel, the film now has the biggest budget ever recorded.

This is why people prefer the walking dead...
Same here. Plus popcorn doesn’t cost $12, and no jerks talking on their phone.
I saw the trailers and the zombie hordes looked flat out ridiculous...
Jane Austen never did write a decent car chase scene, but I’ve always suspected Mr. Darcy’s real line of work was as a Mafia hit man. It explains so much.
I heard how bad waterworld was. When I finally watched it I liked it and watch it when I see it playing. Kind of a mad max on water.
However, Ishtar and Battlefield Earth are just plain terribly bad horribly made movies. It looks like Heaven’s gate was too. To use the car analogy: more on the scale of a Cummins diesel Oldsmobile. It was always best avoided at any price over the scrap metal value. ;-)
In fact, to paraphrase:
Waterworld and Postman = VW Phaton - VW lost a bundle but a lot of people got a great car for far less than it cost to make.
Battlefield Earth and Heaven’s Gate = Oldsmobile diesel car - for anyone who touched it, it left a mark.

The sequel.
Tom Clancy could consult on the script. Man, I can see the trailer now...
The movie trailers look like they have very little to do with Max Brook’s book. DH is a huge fan of WWZ, but he has no desire to see the movie based on the previews.
Gee, I am always so sad when I hear that some Hollyweirdo lost a boatload of money on a film. Boo-hoo. I hope they all go bankrupt.
“Bob Hope: You live here?
Richard Carlson: Yes.
Bob Hope: Well, maybe you know what a zombie is?
Richard Carlson: When a person dies and is buried, it seems a certain voodoo priest will have the power to bring him back to life.
Paulette Goddard: That’s horrible!
Richard Carlson: It’s worse than horrible, because a zombie has no will of his own. You see them some times, walking around blindly with dead eyes, following orders, not knowing what they do, not caring.
Bob Hope: You mean, like Democrats?”

The problem Waterworld had is it was written to be Mad Max on water, a low budget action movie. The Kevin Costner got his hands on it, filmed in the ocean (even after Spielberg warned that would be a huge mistake), and spent $175 million bucks making it. If you watch it as a low budget Mad Max on water it’s a fine little movie. $175 million is supposed to buy more than an Mad Max ripoff though.
Don't feel bad...I did too. Dennis Hopper was great.
They could make the zombies cheesy and unscary,
and the story would still hold.
The book was about the society and the zombie fighters - not how scary the zombies were.
You guys should check out 2012 Cloud Atlas with Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.
Any conservative would spout this travesty a one of the worst movies of all time.
Gay sex, socialism, hatred of big oil, bigotry, sexism, homophobes. You name it, and you’ll find it in this film.
I am one of the very few who enjoyed the book
So would you recommend seeing it?
I hadn’t wanted to see it as I saw ad after ad and behind the scenes snippets, which led me to believe that their polling showed it wasn’t well received.
The pundits said the same things about Jack Reacher but, I absolutely thought is was kewel.
Oblivion
Exactly. It was about how people in different walks of life dealt with the zombie problem.
Oblivion
That one is getting very good reviews.
