I never cared for Andy Kaufman’s style of humor (if you could call it that.) I will say this, however: I thought Jim Carrey did a brilliant job portraying Andy Kaufman in the movie “Man On The Moon.”
To: Perdogg
The thing that makes this different than Elvis sightings is that Kaufmann was notorious for playing tricks on his audiences. In a way, it’s very believable that he could have faked his own death, but part of me wonders just how long he’d carry out the “joke” before revealing it was all an act.

That whole Andy Kaufman/Jerry Lawler thing was weird.

I always believed it was a stunt. We’ll see. Coincidentally, I happened to be in NM when his “death” was announced, FWIW (not much!)

Latka Gravis is alive?
Not roll-on-the-floor funny but an enduring character that so well fits the NY experience.

Back in the day I was a waiter at the famous Carnegie Deli in NYC. He was there one night with a party of 8 and just sat at the end of the table staring straight ahead through the entire meal. He did not eat or say a word to anyone all night. Very strange guy.

The guy got up and lip synced the Mighty Mouse song on the hottest new show on TV. I’ll bet you he made a fortune out of pulling television’s chain.

I think it would be the height of hilarity, if Kaufman really DID fake his death, and resurfaced after three decades.
“Hey everybody, it’s me, Andy Kaufman! It was all a joke!”
And the masses reply, “Andy Who?”

I’m a big Kaufman fan. He was hilarious.
Just thinking about his Mighty Mouse routine makes me smile.
Saw him in concert at the University of South Florida in October, 1978. He did his Elvis — which was a fantastic impression. Finished the evening by wrestling several women.
I hope he’s still alive.
