With the twists of a few final bolts, the steel spire atop One World Trade Center was installed Friday morning — raising the building’s height to a symbolic 1,776 feet.
A sea of construction workers stared into the blue spring sky with pride and delight after the finishing touches were applied about 8 a.m.

I agree, this building is a disgrace. And sticking a pole on top to claim it as the tallest is just a joke.
Granted its been done several times before, but this structure should have national significance. Not some “tallest” based on a technicality.
We should have built them back at least one floor taller, that’s the message it should convey.
After the Grinch stole Christmas, all the Hoos in Hoo-ville gathered, didn’t let it persuade them and lived the spirit of their beliefs, in spite of it all.
Weird analogy I know...

I am totally disgusted with everything about New York City. I am, too... and the fact that it took damned near 12 friggin' years to build this structure to replace twin towers that were built in 18 months speaks volumes about this country's ability to accomplish anything unusual or difficult.

When are they going to paint the big red target in the side of it so the terrorist can aim for it? I learned in kindergarten not to build “tall buildings” out of the blocks. The class bully targets the tallest one every time. They should have left it as a bloody hole in the ground. It happened, it was ugly, it should have stayed ugly.
