Grateful Dead singer-guitarist Bob Weir collapsed during his performance with Furthur at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York last night. The band, which also includes bassist Phil Lesh, was closing out a nine show residency at the historic venue when the 65-year-old Weir stumbled and fell to the floor about a minute into the song Unbroken Chain.
He was helped up by crew members and was able to complete the tune while seated in a chair before the band took a brief break. When they returned without him, Lesh told the crowd that Weir had strained his shoulder earlier in the day and would be unable to complete the set, but the music never stopped.

I let my brother convince me that they had an “off” night and they’d be better the second time. He was wrong. They sucked again.
His “doc” should have pumped him up on cortisone or something before the concert, if the injury was known. That’s just SOP for those big time bands. I loathe/despise/hate the Dead; always have. All their crap music sounds the same. JMO.
Yes. I, too, have been there.
The worst one was the five hour new years eve solo piano gig with the flu in 2001. While everyone was still upset about 9/11. I never forget that one.
Indeed.
“Surrender gracefully the things of youth.”
I roomed with three deadheads my freshman year in college (1980). It was as wild and crazy as you can imagine. I’ve listened to more bootleg live Dead performances than any non-Deadhead.
But I still like the songs from American Beauty and the (gasp) disco-influenced Shakedown Street.
But please, no more live performances. You know, the ones when the crowd starts clapping when the song isn’t over, which happens five times before the song ends.
Oooh, that’s harsh. I love the Dead. Saw them several times at Cal Expo Amphitheater when in high school and college. I listen to more death metal these days, but I love a lot of old hippie music.
I could not disagree more, and I was not a fan. It would be interesting to know which band(s) you think are not overrated. For example, I think the Rolling Stones were very overrated, but that is a matter of personal taste in what I like to hear and not in their musical abilities. I now think the Grateful Dead were the best live jam/rock/etc band ever. Other bands had moments/years (like Allman Brothers Band with Duane). I just know the sound I like to hear. Two famous men who heard about everyone from those decades said it best:
"They're not the best at what they do, they're the only ones that do what they do." Bill Graham employed all the best bands from the 1960s onward. He knew them all and there were alot of great bands thay played wonderful live performances at his venues.
Bob Dylan's press release regarding Jerry Garcia's death
"There's no way to measure his greatness or magnitude as a person or as a player. I don't think any eulogizing will do him justice. He was that great, much more than a superb musician, with an uncanny ear and dexterity. He's the very spirit personified of whatever is Muddy River country at its core and screams up into the spheres. He really had no equal. To me he wasn't only a musician and friend, he was more like a big brother who taught and showed me more than he'll ever know. There's a lot of spaces and advances between The Carter Family, Buddy Holly and, say, Ornette Coleman, a lot of universes, but he filled them all without being a member of any school. His playing was moody, awesome, sophisticated, hypnotic and subtle. There's no way to convey the loss. It just digs down really deep."
I suspect you saw two concerts from the 80s or 90s.Grateful Dead Projects is a collection of great jams from concerts that span the band's career.
Dead music never did anything for me. I did appreciate the cute hippie chicks though.
I’m grateful it was (apparently) not a stroke, and for every year the surviving members and friends continue to play music for us.
"This music sucks."
Your claim would be easy to check. Do you imagine yourself to be an honest man ? What was the date ?
When did you see them? What were one of the dates?
I think he’s lying too. He never saw them.
