Grateful Dead singer-guitarist Bob Weir collapsed during his performance with Furthur at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York last night. The band, which also includes bassist Phil Lesh, was closing out a nine show residency at the historic venue when the 65-year-old Weir stumbled and fell to the floor about a minute into the song Unbroken Chain.
He was helped up by crew members and was able to complete the tune while seated in a chair before the band took a brief break. When they returned without him, Lesh told the crowd that Weir had strained his shoulder earlier in the day and would be unable to complete the set, but the music never stopped.

Absolutely the most over rated band in history. Saw them twice and they sucked both times.
New headline: Grateful Dead singer-guitarist Bob Weir still grateful he’s not dead.
Hard to believe Bob has never bumped his noggin before.
I’m betting he was loaded with painkillers (for the shoulder strain). The video on the original article page looks just like somebody who has lost their equilibrium or balance and went over like a felled tree.
Agreed! I love Jerry Garcia Ties, but can not stand to listen to their music!
From the sound of them I think he just fell asleep.
I play guitar, and have performed onstage with a hurting shoulder (and other times, hurting feet, lower back, etc.) and it can be excruciating to stand and play. I feel for Weir, especially if the shoulder he injured is the one with the guitar strap over it. That would be hell.
Yeah. We’ll soldier on on stage or in combat through things that would otherwise stop us dead in our tracks.
It’s what separates the amateurs from the pros.
You sure got that right, Nully.
Two questions:
Why did you see Furthur twice?
Why would you see anyone a second time after they sucked the first time?
♪November and more, as I wait for the score,♪
Theyre telling me forgiveness is the key to every door.♫
A slow winder day a night like forever,♪
Sink like a stone..... *Thump*
Must have been the brown acid that did it.
I like Bob, I hope he’s not seriously injured. The guy’s been on the road for almost 50 years, cut him a little slack.
Bobby and the Midnites~Bahama Mama
That tune should be retitled “Do the funky Alphonso”
“Absolutely the most over rated band in history. Saw them twice and they sucked both times.”
I saw them once, and all they did was tune-up their instruments. They never actually played a song.
But it was good enough for the Dead-Heads.
