Like William Buckley, I believe adult use of some drugs should be decriminalized. What say you? Zot!

Posted on 04/26/2013 8:31:00 PM PDT by Mason880

My thought is certain recreational drugs, such as marijuana, should remain off legal limits for the under 18 year olds, but become legally available when used in the proper environment. In many ways, pot is quite similar to alcohol, in that they should be used responsibly. My thought is to make the sale of marijuana less profitable by making it legal for home use. Personally, I don't smoke anything now, and do not want the smell of tobacco or pot on my clothes should I visit a public place, such as a shopping mall or bus stop. I know this idea has been kicked around for years, and hasn't really gained traction. My concern is, even if pot was declared legal and open for adult use, how would those newly arrived Mexcian gangs deal with this market loss? Would they end up trying to raid, ruin and close down any public seller of these formerly illegal substances? I think for the first few years, there may be such push back and attempts at intimidation by those losing business to the open market. Its' not really my fight anymore, but, so many cities say they are inching toward bankruptcy, this new open market may help to boost city funds. Yes, it would be a bold step in the cold, deep waters of chance. But it may work. We go rid of prohibition of alcohol, and the country survived the gang's angry wrath back then too.

There is an extensive body of medical evidence that, for a significantly large slice of the population, marijuana use triggers schizophrenia and other mental disorders. This imposes substantial risks and burdens on the general public.

Anyone who thinks otherwise, answer me this, would you leave your three year old with a babysitter who is snorting coke, or shooting heroin, or sucking on a bong? No you would not. Because you know better. Whereas you’d leave her with a babysitter who is having a glass of wine with her dinner. Because you know that’s fine.

This is a straw man because you preclude the condition that the babysitter may be an alcohol abuser too. That fact is I wouldn't want any drug abuser, alcohol abuser babysitting for me. Heck, I don't want one that abuses sunflower seeds baby sitting them either.

Marijuana should be legal. Heroin, meth, cocaine shouldn't be. The difference between marijuana and alcohol is << than the difference between marijuana and heroin, meth, cocaine.

You also probably don't know that there are many different types of Marijuana strains all bred for their distinctive highs. There are strains that one shouldn't even consider if you have a natural tendency to paranoia while others are more effective than 2 mg of lorazapam before bedtime. Others still will 'wake you up' to the reality we choose to forget and ignore while straight.

I would make a bet that right now, the vast, vast majority of drug addiction cases in this country ARE NOT illegal drugs, but are legally prescribed anti-depressants, pain medications, sleep aids, etc.

And I would win that bet.

Yes, filed between the studies: "black people" are inherently stupid and criminal" and "The autopsy reports from Roswell NM.

Yes, chronic use of Marijuana, just like alcohol or Captn' Crunch or McDonalds is not good for you.

People smoke it, will smoke it, and will feed the Mexican drug gangs, and that’s that, while we type all this Barbra Streisand here.

AMEN! PREACH IT BROTHER!

I can make 250 gallons (who is counting) of beer and/or wine a year legally, but distilling 5 gallons of spirits that I wouldn't drink for at least 7 years makes me a criminal.

It's about the shakedown/protection racket thing. They want the taxes.

true and they’re a scourge on society too. I tell you this as someone who deals with this population daily. plenty of prescription drug abusers are also street drug abusers and, for that matter, prescription drugs have become street drugs. It’s a huge problem.

Alcohol or drugs. One or the other. Not both.

I know as many pot smokers as drinkers. The only difference is the drinkers get dui’s and are more likely to fight. My observation thru life is kids get on hard drugs because the guy dealing pot has them too. If booze came from a meth dealer it too would be called a gateway drug. Btw all my friends have jobs and don’t vote for democrats.

I’m disappointed, but also enlightened. Once, I was nearly Zotted, (this is a psychological catharsis) but not knowing better, I still fear the Viking kitties, yet, I secretly yearn to see the the hordes of feline wrath, but alas, no Viking kitties yet? hmmm. Maybe the Zot is really our friend?

Well... back to hunting rabbits.

It won’t happen. The Mexican Mafia and the Washington Mafia make too much from prohibition. And even Freepers are willing to trade Freedom for the illusion of safety.
