In a recent thread about the death of Jonathan Winters, it was stated that he was one of the funniest men who ever lived. He WAS funny, but he wouldn't be on my list of the funniest who have ever lived. And by "ever", I mean since the dawn of recorded media. My list of the funniest people who have ever lived would be as follows:
Groucho Marx
John Cleese
Mike Myers
Bill Cosby
Peter Cook
Rowan Atkinson
Charlie Chaplin
George Carlin
Mel Brooks
Woody Allen
Douglas Adams.
The sole criterion is that they make me laugh. Hard. Everybody is different. What makes you laugh might make me cringe. And verse visa. So list away...
You just listed the Mt. Rushmore o$ cartoon humorists.
No doubt, but none of them were funny!
(We’re watching Roy lately thanks to some Christian channel. I can also watch Lone Ranger.)
I’m glad I wasn’t driving last year when Rush was going off on Sandra Fluke. I don’t care how offended everyone was, THIS woman was laughing so hard cleaning the kitchen I nearly cracked my head on the counter!
Great stuff! I still remember the Monica Lewinsky days when she had that ridiculous lawyer, William Ginsburg. Rush had the William Ginsburg update theme with a lady yodeling an opera song with Ginsburg’s audio clips playing in the background. No matter how many times or where I was when it played, I would be on the floor in laughter. I heard Mr. Ginsburg just passed away, but he got his 15 minutes of fame.
“Today they’re making pictures that I wouldn’t want Trigger to see.”

“Trigger is still the most popular attraction at the Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Museum in Branson, Missouri. Roy also arranged for his German shepherd Bullet and Dales horse Buttermilk to be preserved and exhibited at the museum. Roy used to joke that after he died, he wanted to be preserved and mounted on the saddle on Trigger.
Roy Rogers son, Dusty, once said of his father. Trigger died and Dad had him stuffed. Bullet died and Dad had him stuffed. Buttermilk died and Dad had her stuffed. Now Mom sleeps with one eye open!”
VERY GOOD!
Thanks, I needed that.
Brian Regan and Bill Burr deserve to be on that list...they are truly funny stand up comics.
Happy to have inspired you! “Well, I’m off to my bridge club now!” “Gee mom, isn’t that bridge built YET?” (not sure which one that’s off of, but I’ve always had a fondness for that album, and Nick Danger).
And that's about as dry as you can get...
Yeah - but Dr. Forrester and Frank were pretty funny, too...
