When cars had metallic bumpers, sodas were used to polish them, and popular acidic soft drinks has also been known to be a good toilet-bowl cleaner.
Now, Greek gastroentrologists headed by Dr. Spiros Ladas at Athens University Medical School and Laikon Hospital have published a study proving that drinking Coca-Cola (the brand name provided in the article) can open up clogs in people with overly convoluted gastrointestinal systems caused by the ingestion of digested fruits and vegetables. They published their findings on Monday in the journal Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

well, no wonder we felt better so fast! :)
I was very sickly as a kid. Mom gave me coke syrup whenever i was nauseas from all the meds i used to take. It really worked. I still drink coke to settle my stomach sometimes.
on a side note...
I still like to drink coke...I recently discovered Mexican Coke (imported from Mexico). It is coke made with real sugar instead of corn syrup. I love it...reminds me of how it used to taste when i would drink in back in the 60’s and 70’s.
We can buy it here (FL) by the case at Home Depot, of all places!
Many years ago our family went to Florida for
Christmas, anyway in the place where we ate in
Miami I chocked on a piece of meat,The waitress
saved me with that coke syrup
Yeah, it's the original "Goo Gone".
You might try some Ginger tea. Very good for the stomach. Just get some fresh Ginger root, and slice up some quarter sized pieces to cover the bottom of your mug. Add boiling water, cover and steep for 5 to 10 minutes, depending on what strength you like. Do a search on “Ginger, Health Benefits.”
worked for me when I was pregnant
My aunt, all 100 pounds of her, drank either coffee or Coca Cola constantly, smoked, ate chocolate by the pound and died peacefully in her sleep at 85 years old.
thanks! I’ll try that.
ditto that
That’s too bad. If she had only taken better care of herself with healthy eating, she might have lived to see old age....
My Sister can’t do it. She has tongue problems, and anything that is even a little bit spicy,,, she can’t handle. Ginger works wonders for me though. But,,, be aware,,, it is a blood thinner. Do do a search and read up on it. It’s been used for a couple thousand years for stomach problems. Also, you might talk to your doc about it. I’m not a doc, despite my nick, I’m just a retired musician, who has had very good luck solving health problems by going to a Chinese Traditional Medicine doctor. Do your research!
UGGG!!!
I used to cover the off-road races in Baja. I tried their soda. Yes it’s real sugar but they about triple the sugar!
To me at least it’s nothing like the coke I remember.
Besides chocolate, I believe her favorite food was prime rib. I hope the genetic connection works for me.
My grandmother died a few years back. She literally spent the last 20 years of her life pretty much eating Vanilla wafers and an occasional tuna sandwich. Drank tea.
Made it to 96.
These poor women. Cut down in the very prime of life through poor eating habits. If only Mayor Bloomberg was there to save them.
All this time I thought it was “Put the lime in the coke and putt!” No wonder I suck at golf.
A little rum splashed in with the cola might even be more interesting, for experimental purposes only.
I’ll have to try that with a ham - hadn’t heard it before... I know it tastes good with a different kind of pork though!
Easy & Yummy (and inexpensive) Bar-b-que “Country-style Pork Ribs”
Family-size pkg. of Country-style pork ribs (abt. 3 lbs.)
1 can of coke (or other dark cola)
1 cup ketchup
1/2 to 1 teaspoon of ground ginger
Mix the coke, ketchup and ginger together in a med. bowl (will be *watery* - easier to mix the ginger into the ketchup before adding the pop and using a fork or whisk works best to mix the ketchup and pop).
Brown the “ribs” in some fat/oil on the stove quickly (sear in the juices). Then lay them in a roasting pan and pour the coke/ketchup/ginger stuff over it. Bake covered with roasting pan lid, or aluminum foil at 350 degrees for about 2 hours. Take the foil or lid off for the last 30 minutes to thicken the drippings.
(I always have some extra bottled bbq sauce just in case, but it comes out really juicy and there’s usually no need for any extra sauce. Add a side dish or two, and you’re all set. :) )
I buy Mexican Coke at my local grocery store here in NH. It comes in the nice curved glass bottle. Costs $1/bottle.
I use it when I mix some rum with it(for medicinal puposes only).
