Paramount Pictures made the decision to postpone last Saturday’s premiere and the nationwide opening of Tom Cruise’s new movie, “Jack Reacher” this Friday in the wake of Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting.
The decision was made due to the fact that the movie has a bit of gun violence in many scene’s of the movie, including a violent opening scene.
“Due to the terrible tragedy in Newtown, Conn., and out of honor and respect for the families of the victims whose lives were senselessly taken, we are postponing tomorrow’s Pittsburgh premiere of Jack Reacher,” a Paramount official said in a Dec. 14 statement to the Hollywood Reporter. “Our hearts go out to all those who lost loved ones.”
In the opening sequence of the movie a sniper is shown, “methodically gunning down what looks to be five random targets,” on a riverfront promenade, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The movie star’s Tom Cruise as title character Jack Reacher, a drifter and former Army Military Police officer, working as an investigator for the alleged sniper’s defense attorney, Reacher unravels a case involving a hired killer and a Russian known only as “the zec.”
The movie is based on the 2005 novel written by Lee Child, called “One Shot.”
Paramount has made no decision on when the movie will now actually premiere after its original scheduled December 21st opening has been canceled. The movies December 15th premier at Pittsburgh’s SouthSide Works megaplex was also canceled.
Warner Bros. made similar cancellations of international openings of the “The Dark Night Rises” Batman movie after the Aurora, Colorado movie theatre shootings this past summer.
They know they’re part of the problem. They incite the insane, lunatics and mentally disturbed that now dwell amongst the unwashed masses.
I am a big jack Reacher fan but when I heard Tom Cruise was playing the role I know it will be all screwed up.
Unless they make him 6’5” by CGI it just won’t work. Just becasue TC is so wealthy and has connections it doesn’t mean he is right for the role. Dolph Lundgren when he was younger would have been perfect.
I’ll pass when it does come out.

Murder has always been a form of acceptable public entertainment.
For most of history, it involved actual killing. Lynchings, gladiatorial combat, etc.

There is no minimizing the absolute horror and tragedy of the incident in Connecticut. But the coverage has crossed over into territory that makes me feel a bit uneasy. It almost seems as though people (and I don’t mean Freepers) enjoy wallowing in incidents like this.
Schools in my area are offering counseling for kids who are traumatized by this incident. I admit, I don’t get that. When I was a kid, we would have felt disconnected from an incident that happened far away, and no one would have thought about giving or receiving “counseling.”
Fox News has unending coverage of the police investigation, along with its specially composed tragic theme music it plays before every update. Investigation of what? The murderer was a lunatic, he’s dead, there’s no one to prosecute. The solution is simple-—lock up nutcases and arm teachers.
The response to this kind of thing indicates the culture has been feminized.

It was a horrible tragedy, but they are going to milk this for ll it is worth. It is disgraceful.
Enjoyed Soft Target (as I do all of Stephen Hunter's work) but couldn't figure out if Obobo was modelled on Obama, or Chief Moose, or both!

Cover the story sure, but this is absolutely crazy.

When I read that Tom cruise was cast as Jack Reacher I literally laughed out loud. Why not cast Helen Thomas as Marilyn Monroe?
I’ll probably watch the movie when it shows up on cable for a laugh, but I sure won’t go to the theater to watch it.
Some films go straight to cable. This one should go straight to landfill.
I may Die Trying to accept Cruise in this role. Maybe there is No Way Out but whoever cast Tom in this role is Running Blind. Childs should have included a Tripwire in the contract to avoid what for many of us Reacher fans looks like Bad Luck and Trouble. Maybe the movie will be the Persuader that gets me to accept this but it’s going to be The Hard Way. It seems that Without Fail, Hollywood screws up good books. They had One Shot to cast this series and they blew it as usual. I know it’s only a movie and not Worth Dying For and like all movies will be Gone Tomorrow but it’s like The Enemy of macho leading men decided to leave the simplicity of Reacher on The Killing Floor and substitute Mission Improbable special effects. I can hear the pyrotechnics Echo Burning in my ear already. Probably won’t be able to hear for 61 Hours after this one. But what the hell, I’ll probably see it. After all I’ve got Nothing to Loose. Though I expect it will be a sorry Affair.
Is that stupid movie with Jamie Foxx going to be postponed? It’s more violent than that stupid Reacher movie.

My thoughts exactly! Cruise is about a foot too short. There was lots of grumbling when he was named to play Jack Reacher. I will probably see the movie, just to evaluate the portrayal.

I did the same thing. Isn’t Reacher like 6-4, 250? What is Cruise? 5-7, 170? What a horrible casting decision.
I agree, bombarded with propaganda and also bombarded with total fabrications about what happened.
List of falsehoods that I can think of off the top of my head:
1. First it was a father that went into a school and shot up a bunch of kids and adults - even his own kid
2. Mother was a teacher killed in classroom by son
3. Ryan Lanza - 20 years old committed crime
4. Ryan Lanza - 24 years old committed crime
5. Father is dead in NJ
6. More than three guns were used
7. Second shooter found in woods
8. Girlfriend and other roommate missing in NJ
etc...
If media doesn’t effect people’s behavior, then why are billions spent on advertising?
