I have found that when starting your preparedness measures, it is best to start at the beginning in order to ensure you have everything you need to build up your foundation. Start your preparations with a 72-hour kit and then create a vehicle 72-hour kit. Once that is complete, you can begin ensuring your basic needs are met for longer periods or begin targeting other layers of preparedness. The 52-Weeks to Preparedness series offers a complete list of getting your home and family ready for unexpected disasters.
Having multiple emergency plans is another example of layering up. Not only do you always need a Plan B, you need Plan C, Plan D and on through the alphabet for every situation. Keep the following tips in mind when beginning your preparedness foundation:
Keep family members and any medical or special needs in mind when planning Dont forget your pets Continually adding onto your layers will makes for a more economical approach to preparing Many preps have multiple uses and can be used for multiple disasters Lets look at some other examples of how you might layer your preparedness.

I am not convinced their prep will survive a tornado, flood or earthquake. Their thinking and moxie will indeed survive (a point well made upthread) but the rest... gone in a moment in 3/4 disasters.
Those poor goats.
So dinner is off?

I can’t argue with you there. I guess I should not be so flippant about the ZA.
I used your name and forgot to ping you to post 96.
I went and looked at the poster. What in the h*ll is that about? Our government had those printed up and for what reason?
CDC has been running a prepping campaign that's a little out of the box, and they did get some notice, it was a meme on the web for a while. I guess the FEMA posters were boring.

Since it was freedumb2003 making his usual Democrat out of himself I wish you wouldn’t have bothered.
It makes me think of the greasy handprints I found on the glass panes in my front door. Looked like someone had been down on their knees with their greasy hands on the glass while they peered into my house. It creeped me out.
CDC is in a heck of a spot, if you actually care about government agencies (I almost give them a break, based on the general welfare clause). If CDC calls for everyone to stay inside for 3 days because of a valid disease outbreak, it going to look bad on them if 95% of city folks aren't ready to shelter in place or get evacuated.
At least they can wave the poster in front of congress and tell them they tried to warn people.

Wow, your manhood must have a real problem when you go that low just because I agree with you, except for the insane part.

Just returning the favors you have been so kind to grace me with so many many times. ;-)
Beer cold on the way out, fish cold on the way in. ;)
I keep them in the freezer if the freezer is low on food, to help keep stuff frozen. Full freezers are more efficient.

Good idea, I have saved a bunch of plastic milk bottles for hurricane season water. Didn’t need them this year. How about adding a few drops of Clorox to the water?
When (not if) the checks stop those that were applauding and chatting on their Obamaphones will be marching on the Govt. buildings demanding their stuff. And when they can't get it they will turn on everyone else.
Don't think the checks will stop? Right now the Fed is monetizing the debt. Every time its been tried it has failed and the economy it was tried in collapsed. We are issuing bonds to pay the interest on the bonds we issued last time. Next time we will issue bonds to pay for the interest on the bonds we issued this time. The ONLY way out of this spiral is to cut the budget drastically which means "the checks will either be reduced or cut." There is no way around this.

Ah.
Well, I also return to you the many Vindaloos you provide.
Let’s just leave it be at that.
City water out of the tap around here has chlorine in it, so I don't bother. I've never had a problem with it, and I've gone weeks at a time on stored water.
Bleach I use for potable water I process from local non-potable sources.
On the grasping hand... use whatever you have to keep you and your family alive.

Part of the reason I collect 2 liter soda bottles is that they are robust. Freeze them, drop them, make beer in them, whatever, and they stand up for repeated re-use.
Inside the little triangle recycle thing, there will be a number, under that will be some letters.
That will let you know what kind plastic it is.
