TROUBLE WITH THE FR SITE?
October 25, 2012 | ME

Posted on 10/25/2012 9:35:59 AM PDT by SMARTY

I am having a hard time with the FR site. It has been this way for a couple days.

It's slow, herky jerky and I get a lot of 'document not found' and 'error'.

What's going on? I can't do without FR during the election!

All they have to do is ask. send me a private email.

Jim has already stated that outside IT expertise has been refused, offered gratis or not. There are at least 20 of us here (active FReepers) who are/were high-level sysadmins.

You are so right CedarDave. Anyone in a business that believes they are ‘indispensible’ needs to be immediately involved in training their skills and passing on their job.

Otherwise, the business is under threat of collapse should something, ANYTHING happen to that person.

Even emotional and personal stresses. Which can also include boredom.

You may want to grab your tinfoil but I think the site has been targeted by those who don’t appreciate the conservative nature of FR. JMHO.

Hey, Jim posted a nice notice the other day, about this. If I remember correctly, the money given for new routers, etc, is in the bank, and John is doing everything possible to keep FR up and running. I know Election Eve will be a mess, but that is the way it is. Lighten up, if it wasn’t for FR where would you go for unbiased information???

Oh. I thought Libertarians were for small gov't, which is something I favor. If you read Charles Beard's classic An Economic Interpretation of the Constitution, you get a compelling feeling that the gov't is involved in a lot of endeavors where it doesn't belong. Cell phones for the poor! What the hell is that all about other than to use our money to buy votes. Any group, regardless of moniker, that favors smaller gov't is a group I have at least some sympathy with.

It seems to me that these problems have been creeping forward in intensity over the last few years, really. Almost imperceptibly so, but this is my impression.

If this truly is the case (slow degradation over the years) perhaps the reason lies at the increase over the years of people FReeping while using smartphones and similar technology.

I don’t know anything about computers (probably obvious to those who do at this point) but my thought is this: all the smartphone /mobile tech users don’t add more traffic or load, but the “interface” they use isn’t as compatible as normal PC browsers, and this is causing conflicts at FR’s end.

As if the browsers smartphones/other mobile devices use a language the FR system can “understand” but not very well, so the system is slowed as it, in effect says to smartphones logging on, “Wait, what did you say? Say it again..”, and this causes the slowdown.

Again, I don’t know (obviously). Just something I’ve thought for a while.

Re: Time stamps

IIRC, the code for FR was rewritten several years ago to allow FR to recognize the correct time based on the user’s computer time and location.

Occasionally, the code stalls. When that happens, it reverts to the default Pacific time zone. When that happens, sometimes reloading the page will correct to the ‘local’ time. Sometimes, I have had to close and re-open the browser.

Nope. Not at all. Libertarians might give lip service to small government ideals. Just like Republicans might give lip service to conservative values, but the ugly truth of the matter is that libertarians - like Ron Paul - acutally vote for their favorite big gubmint pork projects like anyone else.

And the # 1 agenda of libertarians? Pro-marijuana laws. And when you press them to admit why they want legal dope, they’ll tell you.

To tax and legislate it.

In other words... The want BIGGER government and MORE taxation.

What I don’t get is why so many conservatives on this site are under the delusion that they are libertarian.

When you look at the modern realities of true libertarians, you see nothing more than occu-tards who bathe regularly and actually work for a living.

True enough. I remember reading on yet another thread about this a few weeks ago where a guy had offered gratis the services of the techs who keep amazon.com up and running.

Jim has been straight up that John will not utilize outside services. He has been straight up that it's not a problem with the hardware. He's been straight up that it's not a DOS attack problem. So far, John has been unable to locate the problem.

Jim's done his best to tell us the nature of the problem. I don't know what else he could do to make it anymore clear than this.

I am assuming FR traffic is much lower than it was before the Guiliani Purge four years ago. Is that not true, is traffic that much higher? And the computers are much faster now as well.

My other complaint was around MSN Games which is not likely to be a Righty site. It is a pretty bad site in general at all times though.

This is something I’ve been getting for the last few weeks too I don’t know if it would be helpful:

Response Error.

Technical description:
502 Bad Gateway - Response Error, a bad response was received from another proxy server or the destination origin server.

SOLUTION! Pay to Say. Those who want LIVE COVERAGE on the election can sign up on a ‘pay to say’ site. Preregistration is necessary and the entire post can be viewed by FR after the election.

All the same problems here. Errors, page won't load, etc.

When I try to open a thread, it takes forever, so then I drag the headline into my desktop and open it there. In that process the FR original page will open. Sometimes that works, sometimes it don't.

One think I did notice, sometime, somehow one of my ICONS (a website I save to desktop), changed looks. Now it is a golden eye looking thing. Don't know how that happened.
