It seems to me that these problems have been creeping forward in intensity over the last few years, really. Almost imperceptibly so, but this is my impression.
If this truly is the case (slow degradation over the years) perhaps the reason lies at the increase over the years of people FReeping while using smartphones and similar technology.
I don’t know anything about computers (probably obvious to those who do at this point) but my thought is this: all the smartphone /mobile tech users don’t add more traffic or load, but the “interface” they use isn’t as compatible as normal PC browsers, and this is causing conflicts at FR’s end.
As if the browsers smartphones/other mobile devices use a language the FR system can “understand” but not very well, so the system is slowed as it, in effect says to smartphones logging on, “Wait, what did you say? Say it again..”, and this causes the slowdown.
Again, I don’t know (obviously). Just something I’ve thought for a while.
