Curcumin shows promise in fighting devastating viruses. It stopped the potentially deadly Rift Valley Fever virus from multiplying in infected cells, says Aarthi Narayanan, lead investigator on the new study and a research assistant professor with Mason's National Center for Biodefense and Infectious Diseases.
"Curcumin is, by its very nature, broad spectrum," Narayanan says. "However, in the published article, we provide evidence that curcumin may interfere with how the virus manipulates the human cell to stop the cell from responding to the infection."
Ultimately, curcumin could be part of drug therapies that help defeat these [deadly] viruses, Narayanan says. "I know this works. I know it works because I have seen it happen in real life," Narayanan says. "I eat it every day. I make it a point of adding it (turmeric, which contains curcumin) to vegetables I cook. Every single day."
The parenthetical comments in the title are way over-stated.
Viewed from a more reasonable perspective, however, this is not news; most of the therapeutic effects have been known for hundreds if not thousands of years.
Are you a Curcumin broker?....
If you have a moment?...
Google turmeric...the doggone stuff has a wealth of uses. Including having helped my dog BIG TIME after her recent surgery.
I had a wicked cyst and started drinking down a teaspoon of tumeric in water three times a day (tasted dusty, that's about it), and the cyst dissolved within three days.
I also now find Hindi understandable.
I tried it...I can’t STAND the taste! :)
However, the dogs love it mixed with cottage cheese.
There seems to be a LOT of great uses for this stuff.
Sadly, in the cities, people have almost forgotten these traditional remedies amd prefer to consult doctors.
Ping
turmeric ping.
Everybody in my family but myself, likes curry and turmeric. I may have to give it a try.
Where do you get *good quality tumeric*, BG? Not the diluted junk sold most places.
Thanks. I need to use more ... if I put it in my carrot soup, it won’t show ;-).
Our holistic vet gave us a jar of some kind of paste that smelled like curry to heal a hole left by an abcess on my dog’s leg. It worked very quickly and didn’t seem to bother the dog at all.
sfl
Like every other effective treatment that used to be available.
&#%$ socialists...
i put some in my rice cooker so my white rice turns yellow and looks like saffron rice.
if you cook with it it will “stain” everything yellow and will stain pots and pans but, with this artilce, i have even more reasons to use it.
A friend, a Ph. D. in chemistry, told about his colleagues experience on a vacation cruise. Seems that his arthritis was flaring up and he constantly carped about his discomfort at the dinner table. After a few days, one of the other vacationers, a physician from China, had finally heard enough. He said, You should take turmeric. Arthritis is virtually unknown in India and they eat turmeric in almost every meal. When he returned he started taking turmeric capsules and, low and behold, his pain symptoms diminished significantly. My friend, who has arthritis to the level that he claims he has not been able to sleep for more than a few hours straight for years, starts his turmeric regimen. Within a couple weeks hes sleeping through the night and generally pain free.
Along with the anecdotal stories, my chemist friend relates his own brief research indicating turmeric is recognized as an anti-inflammatory in some parts of the world. Thats enough for me, suffering from occasional knee and hip pain from old sports injuries. Two 600-mg caps daily of turmeric root extract make a difference. I cant say, not having tried another regimen, whether 3 would do any better. I do know that when I occasionally run out it only takes a couple days for the pains to return.
