Jintu Gogoi's neighbourhood in Sadiya, Upper Assam, is no longer friendly. Over two weeks ago, an army of eight-legged freaks invaded it. It all happened in the evening on May 8. Most of the inhabitants of Chaulkhowa Nagaon village had been to a Bihu function. When the programme drew to a close, swarms of spiders suddenly descended from nowhere and started biting the people. The festive mood soon turned into one of panic with people bumping into each other and tripping over empty benches in their frantic bid to egress. Jintu was bitten by one of these critters.

Typical politician speak, blame the victim.
What, we're now protecting the civil rights of the spider??
Speaking of tarantulas....has anyone traveled on I-40 going west between the Nevada/Californina line and Barstow at N_I_G_H_T ? There are thousands of them crawling along the sides of the highway and smashed on the pavement. I used to think if I had a flat tire, I’d run on a rim to Barstow.
I used to regularly drive around South Western Kansas. There was an area somewhere maybe West of Ashland which was often over run with tarantulas.
Every time you ran over one, it would cause a thump. They were large enough to make an impact on your driving.
Wow. Never saw them in Kansas. We used to see lots of them on the road driving back from Lake Elsinore. They’d come out onto the asphalt to keep warm I guess.
This was in the extreme South of Kansas. I noticed they were also in Oklahoma in that same general area.
They would be all over the highway. I supposed they were migrating but maybe it was to keep warm.
Fortunately, they're virtually harmless; scary looking, but harmless.
They may be harmless, but they're all Black Widows to me. Just like snakes...to me they are all cobra's.
Yep. Use to play with them in Pacifica
My Brother who taught biology for over 40 years told me that all spiders are venomous. Maybe there is an exception but that is basically what he said.
The good news is most of them are not harmful to humans and most of those whose venom is harmful, have no way of injecting it. For instance the daddy longlegs has very toxic venom but it can’t get it’s venom into humans.
YET...
hmmm..daddy-long-leg tea by al quaeda?
Must not have any tarantula hawks that way. They WILL thin the herd out and fast.
I used to be afraid of them but, not anymore. BTW, dont EVER get stung by a Tarantula hawk..one of the worst stings, as far as pain, in the world I understand.
"Check."
Ya know? I don't get this either. Tarantulas are ground hunting spiders. No silk in existence can support their weight. The usually build a little nest for themselves with silk trip lines to tell when prey are coming.
They don't descend unless they just drop.

0 2.0 Honey bee and European hornet - Like a matchhead that flips off and burns on your skin.[3]
3.0 Red harvester ant - Bold and unrelenting. Somebody is using a drill to excavate your ingrown toenail.
