A baby squirrel is finding a home of sorts alongside a cat and her kittens in Michigan.
Eight-year-old Bailee Schultz heard the squirrel whimpering a few weeks ago in a wooded area of his grandparents' property in Bay County's Bangor Township. Stephanie Box tells MLive.com (http://bit.ly/IX2Oqj ) Bailee brought her to the squirrel, which was under a nest.
Box says she placed the squirrel they call Bushytail with her cat, Oreo, who recently gave birth to five kittens. The next day, Box says the squirrel was nursing side-by-side with the kittens. They've also seen Oreo lick Bushytail.

There was a YouTube video out a couple of years ago about another squirrel that was nursed by a cat. It actually learned to purr. So cute...

Cute! I’ve noticed that my fat cats have quit bothering the fat squirrels in my yard. I never thought I’d see that day.

I’ve raised baby squirrels and once they’re that size and their eyes are open, they should be switched to rodent chow/puppy milk replacement mush.
[cat milk is not nutritionally sufficient for baby squirrels, anyway]
In about two weeks they should start offering it nuts and seeds.
[NO peanuts..they deplete calcium]

Adorable!
Boise Shooters has a lengthy pedigree of squirrel stories. Most call them tree rats. Some of us think they're cute.

Sunflower seeds (unsalted of course) and pecans shelled. EWnglish walnuts shelled are great, too. The little ones make great pets if you get them before their eyes open. There was a Doctor who had his offices in his old family mansion down in Eufala, AL, IIRC. He had a squirrel that lived in the house, had its own room with a large tree branch for furnishings. The kids loved that entertainment. He would crawl all over people looking for treats in their pockets.

That’s a rough bunch of siblings to grow up with. I’ll bet the kittens call him ‘dinner’.
Just for fun, of course ;-)

Raised three fox squirrels one time. I bottle fed them and cut the whole milk about half and half with water-I think. They cant hack whole milk and will die if you try and give them that. You have to cut the milk.
Problem is, when they crawl on you they poop a lot. The thing that amazed me was their paws. They have those little knuckles and can pick up things and handle them. They can crack open a nut so quick it is unreal.

I wish I had a pet squirrel like that. I could let my Borzoi puppy practice chasing him.

I bribe our squirrels with old crackers or bread so they'll stop trying to steal birdseed from our “squirrel-proof” bird feeder. I lay them out on the deck rail right outside the breakfast room window and they'll sit there and eat the crackers holding them with both hands (paws) turning them around as they nibble away. Our cat, Beaux, loves to watch them through the shutters and he “chirps” at them as they run around. We also keep large flat plastic dishes on plant stands filled with clean, every day changed, water and they as well as the birds love to drink and/or bath in it. Quite a neat show while having the morning coffee.
