Oprah loses millions in ad sales for 'O' magazine

Just when we thought things were beginning to look up for Oprah Winfrey, her highly successful magazine takes a fall. According to a new report, O, The Oprah Magazine is down millions of dollars in advertising sales in comparison to last year.

The Association of Magazine Media reports that ad sale revenue for O, The Oprah Magazine was $48.8 million in 2011. However, this year ad sales are at a low of $34.2 million, which translates to a decrease of 24.1 percent. The magazine's newsstand sales have also been declining as of late.

According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, in the second half of 2011 sales declined by a whopping 32 percent, while on average the decline with other major magazines was merely 10 percent.

Oprah Winfrey said today that while she is “not going to be out there” as a booster for President Obama during the 2012 general election campaign, her support has not dimmed.

“I’m 100 percent behind our president. I actually love our president, and have the utmost respect for him and that office and what it takes to be there,” Winfrey told Charlie Rose on CBS’ “This Morning.”

“I will not be out there because I’m trying to fix a network,” she said.

Oprah appeared last month at an intimate, high-dollar fundraiser for Obama’s re-election effort at the Atlanta home of actor-producer Tyler Perry.

Women watched Oprah because her show was on free TV.

They got the magazine with a one time cheap sign up subscription and can’t afford to renew it at it’s regular price.

They don’t have Oprah in their home everyday telling them to buy what she buys, vote how she votes and care about what she cares about...they are sheep without a shepherd.

Politics aside, it is a horrid magazine with nothing of interest for most people. Picked it up once at the doctor’s office, and wondered why anyone at all would subscribe. Same with her “network”—awful, awful stuff. Who watches? I mean besides Oprah and Obama...

I believe Oprah's downgrade in popularity is a realistic sign of the true popularity of Obama among women. When Oprah had her show, she was particularly popular with white, middle aged women. After the show ended, she took up the Obama cause and now, everything she touches turns to dust. IMHO, those once loyal Oprah viewers assign some blame for Obama to Oprah.
