Looking for some Freeper musical help - I have a song that I can't recall the title or group from the late 80s early 90s. It is basically a list of cities sung very rapidly one after another. I know there at least two other songs that used a similar technique of stringing words together to a rhythm - one was in I believe the early sixties and the other in the later 90s. I have always been terrible with music titles and group names so looking to see if any FRiends can help me out on a Friday night. Thanks in advance.
Billy Joel did one about Current Events called “We Didn’t Start The Fire,” and Tom Leher did the Periodic Table to “Modern Major General”, but I can’t remember the one you’re asking for...sorry.
“I’ve been everywhere” by Johnny Cash?
“Everywhere” by Hank Snow from the 60’s. I will look it up to verify the title.
I think that might be “We Didn’t Start The Fire” by Billy Joel.
“Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me) - Reunion
“It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” by REM came out in 1987 I think.
I think they name almost every major US city....
This one:
JOHNNY CASH
“I’ve Been Everywhere”
I was totin’ my pack along the dusty Winnemucca road,
When along came a semi with a high an’ canvas-covered load.
“If you’re goin’ to Winnemucca, Mack, with me you can ride.”
And so I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside.
He asked me if I’d seen a road with so much dust and sand.
And I said, “Listen, I’ve traveled every road in this here land!”
[Chorus:]
I’ve been everywhere, man.
I’ve been everywhere, man.
Crossed the desert’s bare, man.
I’ve breathed the mountain air, man.
Of travel I’ve had my share, man.
I’ve been everywhere.
I’ve been to:
Reno, Chicago, Fargo, Minnesota,
Buffalo, Toronto, Winslow, Sarasota,
Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa, Oklahoma,
Tampa, Panama, Mattawa, La Paloma,
Bangor, Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo,
Tocapillo, Baranquilla, and Perdilla, I’m a killer.
[Chorus]
I’ve been to:
Boston, Charleston, Dayton, Louisiana,
Washington, Houston, Kingston, Texarkana,
Monterey, Faraday, Santa Fe, Tallapoosa,
Glen Rock, Black Rock, Little Rock, Oskaloosa,
Tennessee to Tennesse Chicopee, Spirit Lake,

[Chorus]

Schefferville, Jacksonville, Waterville, Costa Rica,
Pittsfield, Springfield, Bakersfield, Shreveport,
Hackensack, Cadillac, Fond du Lac, Davenport,

[Chorus]

This was written by the Australian songwriter and Country singer Geoff Mack, and recorded in 1962 by the Australian singer Leslie Morrison, who used the stage name Lucky Starr.
Hank Snow recorded it in 1962 and sent it to the top of the charts. Johnny Cash did it later.
MUSKRAT LOVE - The Captain and Tennille - perhaps the greatest song ever.
Sounds like Steve Miller band, but could be “M.”
So many of them, man. But they’re all from the 1950s, or even earlier. Route 66, Sweet Little Sixteen, Calendar Girl, oh wait, never mind.
That’s the one in the head and life is a rock was one of the others (better in my mind). - now I have to go look up some of the others - FReepers win again! Thanks everyone
Ah...I was into Led Zeppelin during their heyday, which Is Why I don’t remember it. My Bad. :-)
