Governor Mitt Romney has signed into law a permanent assault weapons ban that he says will make it harder for criminals to get their hands on these guns.
Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts, Romney said, at a bill signing ceremony on July 1 with legislators, sportsman's groups and gun safety advocates. These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.
Like the federal assault weapons ban, the state ban, put in place in 1998, was scheduled to expire in September. The new law ensures these deadly weapons, including AK-47s, UZIs and Mac-10 rifles, are permanently prohibited in Massachusetts no matter what happens on the federal level.
We are pleased to mark an important victory in the fight against crime, said Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey. The most important job of state government is ensuring public safety. Governor Romney and I are determined to do whatever it takes to stop the flood of dangerous weapons into our cities and towns and to make Massachusetts safer for law-abiding citizens.

what was Mitt saying about Newt sitting on a couch with Nanci Pelosi?
That ices it for me.
good news. This permanent AWB will not play well in Michigan in my opinion. Michigan is sportsman country and the second amendment means something to those folks. I could jog over to Michigan in about 10 minutes btw. Here in Ohio, the second amendment still has meaning too. Jobs will absolutely be the key issue in Both Ohio and Michigan BUT, for those on the fence, this will “ice it” for many.
Laws have no effect on those that are not law abiding.
who cares if a gun is designed by a certain military to hunt humans.
It can still be used to hunt, plink or target practice.
heck, it can even be used in shooting contests.
Romney, shooting blanks in support of the 2nd Amendment.
I’m Vendome and I approve this Ad.
What kind of idiotic “sportsmans groups” do they have in Massachusetts?
target shooting is one of my favorite hobbies but it has gotten so expensive, I hate to waste the ammo. It was a lot more fun when you could actually afford ammo. Expensive ammo will kill the sport as sure as any democrat.
THAT... is one excellent caption.
I hope the Gingrich camp sees that. And they will if they are doing their due diligence and carefully reading Free Republic every day.
Romney had a ~30% favorability rating when he “left” office. In truth, he didn’t even bother running for a second term because he was so freaking unpopular that he knew he had no chance. Judging by his favorability, I don’t think the sportsman’s groups of Massachusetts cared for him or his AWB. oh yeah, Romney was kicked out of office by the electorate and was utterly disgraced.
I hope our undecided republican brothers and sisters in Florida are carefully reading Free Republic every day as they try to make up their minds.
I didn't know, so thank you.
My question to you or anyone who knows is:
What's Mitt's "position" on the 2nd Amendment now, and when did he do his flip-flop?
This will provide even more fresh meat for Newt as the primaries move into the midwest. Heck, I even know leftists who are strongly pro-2nd Amendment.
I don't care what he says his position is now. He already crossed that line so I don't trust him to hold it in the future. Honestly, I doubt he even knows where he stands on the issue though being the political jellyfish that he is.
You are right about that.
” with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people”.
with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing blue helmets.
“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts, Romney said”
But, if the ATF wants to ship a bunch to Mexico, I’ll not stand in the way, or demand the Atty. General be indicted.
The one on the right hasn’t had a drink in 2 years...
Just like they do not abide by Federal Tax law in regards to "Death Tax".
I have family their, the lay of the land is pretty, but we might as well sell it to France, it is heartbreaking given it is one of our cradles of Liberty.
