What books are people currently reading? Any particular fiction or non-fiction of note? Any recommendations from some recent reads?
I just downloaded the novel Hunter by Robert James Bidinotto for my kindle. It's an indie novel and has received good reviews on Amazon. Will report back once I finish up.
Ulysses by James Joyce. 43% done with it and I can’t stand it. I don’t know why I persist but it is supposed to be one of the best literature books ever written in the English language. Unless it has a great finish, I don’t understand 20th century literature.
Thank you for the list. Lookes like I still have a lot of reading to do!
That list is a trip down memory lane. I read Martian Chronicles as a young teen and was hooked on the Genre for life. I have read a number of them multiple times.
I’ve been working my way through the Matt Helm and Parker series more or less simultaneously for awhile. About midway through Helm and between books at the moment. Currently on “Breakout” in the Parker series.
I’m reading two books currently:
The Most Evil People in History
and
Unexplained Mysteries of WW2
Keep on with the next two volumes. Should be required reading. You can find cheap unabridged copies at book sales or used online.
Now reading
Domestic Enemies the Reconquista by Matthew Braken
“Elkie Brooks, Finding My Voice - My Autobiography -” (Just because I like her:
From 1974, with Vinegar Joe: ‘Proud To Be A Honky Woman’

From 1982: ‘Fool If You Think It's Over’:

From 2010: ‘Mess Of The Blues’:

)
“Operation Jedburgh,” by Colin Beavan. Excellent book about the OSS men training in England and then jumping into occupied France and working with the Maquis before and after Operation Overlord.
The Book Thief
Finished War of The Mountain Man by William W. Johnstone last night and daily Bible reading. May reread another Johnstone book next. Have them on my iPad. I love to read.
Here`s an interesting book I read:
“NATIVE AMERICAN TALES AND TRAILS OF THE NORTHEAST WARPATH OF THE NATIONS”
569 pages
Some info on site: https://sites.google.com/site/tuojos/
has hundreds of photos, maps etc.
The first time I read “Alas Babylon” was sitting on the veranda of my barracks in the Philippines in 1962. It is as relevant today as it was back then. It’s been years since I’ve read it and I think it’s time to revisit it.
I am on “The Black Widow” by Daniel Silva. I am waiting for my copy of “See Something, Do Nothing.” I finished “Prayers the Devil Answers” by Sharyn McCrumb, a great read.

What if V-E Day hadnt ended World War II in Europe? What if, instead, the Allies had to face a potent, even fanatical, postwar Nazi resistance? Such a movement, based in the fabled Alpine Redoubt, was in fact a real threat, ultimately neutralized by Germanys flagging resources and squabbling officials. But had SS Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich, the notorious Man with the Iron Heart, not been assassinated in 1942, fate might have taken a different turn. In this imagined world, Nazi forces launch a guerrilla war, using the quick and dirty tactics of terrorism to overturn what seemed to be a decisive victory. Suddenly the Alliesespecially the United Statesare mired in a long, seemingly unwinnable conflict while battling an invisible, unrelenting enemy.
After wearing out three paperback copies of AB, I finally broke down and bought a hardback from Amazon. Great book. Too bad it wasn’t made into a movie.
