Blacks' Dilemma With Obama

Star Parker

Election of our nation's first black president is delivering an unexpected message to our black population.

Blacks are discovering that what a man or woman does -- their actions -- is what matters, not the color of their skin.

It seems ridiculous to point out that this was supposedly the point of the civil rights movement. Purge racism from America.

But blacks themselves have been the ones having the hardest time letting it go.

It is not hard to understand why black Americans were happy that a black man was elected president of the United States. It was kind of a final and most grand announcement that racism has finally been purged from America.

But for the highly politicized parts of black America this was certainly not the only message. Because for the highly politicized parts of black America, the point has always been to keep race in American politics.

For black political culture that dominated after the civil rights movement, the point was not just equal treatment under the law, but special treatment under the law. Plus the assumption that more black political power -- defined by more blacks holding office -- would mean that blacks would be better off.

In other words, post-civil rights movement black political culture embraced an agenda exactly the opposite of what the civil rights movement was about. Its agenda was to get laws and policies that were not neutral but racially slanted and to put individuals in power based on their race and not on their character and capability.

So, according to the script of this political culture, election of a black man as president meant more than an end to racism. The conclusion had to be that if the man holding the highest political office in the nation was black, it must follow that blacks would be better off.

Now blacks have a dilemma. We have a black president and blacks are worse off. Not just a little, but a lot worse off.

In the words of longtime Congressional Black Caucus member Maxine Waters, D-Calif., "Our people are hurtin'.."

Blacks now grapple with two possible conclusions.

One, our black president is a traitor to his race. Our struggles put him in power and now he's not taking care of his folks. He's become, in the words of left wing professor and activist Cornel West, a "mascot" of Wall Street.

Or, two, that the man's performance reflects his views and his capability, not his race. He's not delivering for anyone. Blacks are hurting more because they were already in worse shape when Obama got elected. Bad policies hurt the weakest the most.

Blah blah blah.

At the end of the day 95 percent of Blacks will vote for Obama. Again.

I think her basic premise is flawed.

America should have elected a man to the office, that a majority of the states felt would do a good job in guiding this country. American’s generally have had race beaten into their heads for so many decades that most of us see an incompetent, corrupt and lazy man. We don’t see the ‘color’ of the man; we see the ‘quality’ of the man.

To Blacks, it’s always about color first. Why? Because it’s easy to play the victim card; it means you accept no responsibility for poor decisions, no matter what happens - it’s always someone else’s fault.

Prison over-crowding, unwed motherhood, high school drop-outs, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, abandonment by fathers, abusive spouses, gang-life, violent crime, theft, rapes, gunshots, mugging - it’s alway’s someone else’s fault. Yet, when you look at race:criminal lifestyle ratio’s; the math slaps you in the face.

Blacks live and thrive on denial. No matter what they do, no matter who does what - it’s always “Whitey” who is the blame. Kind of similar to our Islamic friends, isn’t it?

Yup, 95% of blacks will vote Obama and blame white people for their bad position.

I see no dilemma whatsoever. Blacks will go for Obama without a doubt by similar margins to 2008

Another funny point is that Obama is Kenyan, where the vast majority of American blacks descend from West-Africans. They have very little in common other than skin pigment. Europe is closer geographically I’d imagine.

Simple solution for Blacks.

He is 1/2 White.

He is 3/8 Arab.

He is 1/8 Black African.

Now does that make him Black?

I seem to remember that when Barry’s campaign first started out, the Black population didn’t consider him to be “Black enough”. It wasn’t until his campaign got underway and he beat the Hildebeast that they decided that half-black Barry was better than no-black McCain.

I know my evidence is anecdotal, but I’m here to tell you there’s trouble in Obama’s black constituency if what I see and hear is widespread.

I coach basketball at various levels, and therefore deal a lot with black kids and their parents. I’ve come to know many of them on more than a surface level over the years, especially when travelling with them.

They know my politics. Politics comes up. I can tell you that they have become disconcerted with Obama, and they’ve begun to pay attention to the issues more.

I’m hearing things I never thought I’d hear from them, and these are people who were so proud of him in 2008. I detect now they’re a bit embarrassed by him.

If I’m right, turnout from this particular constituency is going to be a big problem for Obama in 2012.

Yup. As far as I can tell, the biggest gripe of "leaders" like Jesse, Fat Al, and Calypso Louie, not to mention the more, er, respectable types like Clyburn, is that the Bam/Holder/Jarrett combine isn't stealing for them and discriminating for them fast enough.

As a demographic, they bought him. Now they are disappointed that he is just another POS in a suit.

SUCKERS!

Unless you're a geneticist, for all practical purposes, it does.

I've probably got less African DNA than Obama does, but it still says 'negro' on my birth certificate (and yes, I DO have one!)

Barack Obama Sr was a black Luo, NOT an Arab as some paint chip
eaters on the web claim. He would be a pardo (mixed) in my wife’s country, but that makes him black in the US (where we have stupidly refused to acknowledge mixed race/multiracial as a category).

I like Star Parker and would love to believe what she’s saying, but blacks will be a 90%+ for Obama no matter what.

True, but no other demographic in the country voted so monolithically for Obama, than did blacks. They've got an emotional investment in the man that runs deeper than political ideology.

Star Parker correctly points out that blacks who supported Obama solely because of the color of his skin, have been taken for a ride by the Marxist liberal's policies.

Whites dilemma with Obama has also delivered an expected massage to whites.

Never do this again. Do not elect a hybrid with no experience who is racist, and hates both races because he is neither.
