Hey, I got a question and this is a BIG ole Place....

Anyone have experience in SurgTech? Is the school a bear? I am considering enrolling once I pass the A/P entrance test. I just want advice/thoughts. My local community college offers a degree or cert. A 'scrub', if you will....

I am somewhat ambidextrious and an on my feet learner.

I know what the entry level salary is. I am kinda old and have an opportunity to go back to school.

Thanks in advance. Y'all rock.

You may be thinking of 60Gunner. I haven’t seen him post in quite a while.

Why not consider nursing? Good pay, lots of opportunities, mobility, a chance to really make a difference.

Thank you!! Yes, that’s who it is. He seems to keep pretty busy, and then every once in awhile posts one of his stories and then leaves for awhile.

I think being a grave digger would be a good job for a senior.

He can laugh at every body he buries and say, “Ha, I beat you!”

Reminds me of the George Burns quote: "The only exercise I get, is being pall bearer at the funerals of my friends who exercise."

I could have gone into medicine, if not for the organic chemistry... And all the biology classes... And the fact the the stuff inside the human body is icky, especially when it's leaking out of the human body... And having to deal with people. Especially sick people, I really don't care for that at all... And the fact that I feint at the sight of blood (especially mine.)

Other than that, I would have made a great doctor or nurse.

Reminds me of the George Burns quote: "The only exercise I get, is being pall bearer at the funerals of my friends who exercise."

The other George Burns joke...

Reporter - Mr. Burns, it it true that you smoke 5 Cuban cigars a day?

George Burns - Yes, that's right.

R - Is it true that you drink 5 martinis a day?

GB - Yes, that's right.

R - Is it true that you're dating 4 young ladies, all of them in their twenties?!?!

GB - Yes, that's right.

R - What does your doctor say about someone your age living that lifestyle?

GB - I don't know, my doctor died 5 years ago!

I’m currently in pharmacy school, but looked at a lot of paths prior to deciding on that one. Surgical tech is low-paying and dull. You’d be better off in nursing or sonography (ultrasound technologist). DON’T go for nuclear medicine technologist; the market is saturated.

I considered becoming a surgical tech before God redirected me to become a nurse. It's certainly an important job, and I know many scrub techs who really enjoy their jobs. It's pretty cool seeing the inner workings of the human body. We are fearfully and wonderfully made.

As far as job security goes, I have no idea how being a scrub tech tech would compare to being a nurse (particularly one in a specialty field, such as I am in). But I would imagine the more specialized technical fields (scrub tech, diagnostic imaging tech, etc) would have more job security than the entry-level positions such as CNA or Ward clerk.

Whatever direction you choose, I wish you all sorts of good luck and blessings.

I've been sidetracked with prepping for Christmas, getting my stuff together for more postgrad studies, and building some furniture for my beloved.

I am still working on future installations of my travel adventures. Thanks for your patience!
