Cougar has a crucial class this morning so I will start the show today. I am posting a few minutes before “Sunday Serenade” begins [2 PM EST, 1 PM CST, 12PM MST, 11 AM PST, and for you lucky listeners in Hawaii it must be 8 AM.] to give listeners a time to get set up. I recommend that you open a new browser tab or whatever your configuration calls for so you can listen to these broadcasts and still visit the excellent news thread I pinged you to this morning. But please return to this one frequently because each new broadcast will appear as a new reply. I am pinging the list for this one and will do so periodically throughout the day, but not for every reply.

How long did the attack last? Both waves.

Thanks!

Believe it or not I was 10 years old and our Silvertone radio was set atop the Coldspot fridge and was tuned to
“Songs of The Islands” the very program the japs were tuned to when that happened.

My blood runs cold just reading about this, and I wasn’t even born yet. If only Americans had the resolve now that they had in the 1940s.

The aviation beacon at the top of Mount Diablo, in the San Francisco Bay Area, was turned off on December 7, 1941, after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The beacon remained off until December 7, 1964, when at the suggestion of Admiral Chester Nimitz it was relit again as an annual memorial event.

The beacon is lit every December 7 from dusk to dawn.

A very special thank-you. This is one of three days that mark a watershed in your project, and we are all very grateful for your efforts.

It is a fascinating thing to see what information was transmitted in view of what information was available. Journalism in general has come a very long way since 7 December, 1941, and it has all been downhill.

My home schooled kids, who have learned to read and write from FR, are convinced it was the Germans who attacked Pearl Harbor. Now, what’s up with that?
