I know I now, everyone knows that already.
But come on, a team that already lost to LCU, at home, gets in over a 1-loss conference champ. It's a farce.
And why does the "Big" East get an automatic BCS bowl bid? Are they any better than the MWC? Bah.
I hope Alabama wins to make a further mockery of the whole thing.
Wow! Cool! I thought to hear people talk I was the only person in the whole country who felt this way!
I’d be perfectly happy if my alma mater (Florida State) went 1-10 every year for the rest of my life, as long as that 1 was against the Gators.
There are only three conferences that matter; AFC, NFC and the SEC.
Vanderbilt or Kentucky would beat all those teams you mentioned.
I’m tired of these teams like Ohio, VT, and ND playing six or seven Division I-A and II caliber (ie. Akron, Boise State etc.) teams during a season and then hollering about how they should be in a big bowl.
NOBODY played a tougher schedule than Tennessee this year, and it showed on them.
There are plenty of bowls and time for a top 32 team football playoff. When three of the final 4 are from the SEC and the other is from the ACC for five years straight, nobody should complain.
Current vegas line is LSU-1 and o/u is 40. I may wait until game time and if bama is getting 3 or more, load up on bama. I think they could have won the first time but the missed field goals and INT on the 1 yard line cost them dearly. I had LSU+5 that game (wish I had gone moneyline).
I will probably take the under too (it’s trending down).

Regardless of how you look at conferences... I agree the SEC has been the strongest of late, but I think there is a big drop off after LSU and ‘Bama (Arkansas and Georgia are no better than Virginia Tech, Stanford, Ok State)... One or two losses should not doom a season. Nothing wrong with copying the 20 team playoff model the FCS uses. Reward the Alabamas and LSUs with byes and home games, but give the Virginia Techs and Boise States the chance to compete. You never know what will happen. Boise State has consistently won BCS bowls against major conference competition. Virginia Tech is usually way overated, but they can beat anyone during their better seasons. Plus it would make things very interesting for a month and the college football brand would benefit greatly.
The last time I saw a stat (which was a couple of years ago), the coin flip winner wins about 53% of the time.
Remember, if you get the ball first and fail to do much with it, the other team likely gets good field position. Winning the toss works both ways.

There’s a simple reason why the BCS chose both LSU and Alabama to play for the national title. That’s the only way they could ensure that an SEC team would lose a championship game. ;-)
I am not sure as to whether Alabama beating LSU would catapult it over LSU into #1 if the BCS ranking were to decide the matter. I would think so if Alabama convincingly beat LSU. But let’s say that Alabama beat LSU by the exact score and circumstance that LSU beat Alabama during the regular season. Then, I think a lot of people would vote for LSU, others for Alabama and still others for the winner of the Oklahoma State versus Stanford game.
In the old days, pre-BCS, we often wound up with multiple national champions. In those days, college football consisted of ten games with the possibility of one bowl game. Today, twelve games is the norm, with the possibility of a conference championship games and a bowl game. Some people are argued for a playoff system; possibly with four teams and the elimination of conference bowl games, so as not to add to an already long season for people who are supposed to be students.
Nowadays, we have multiple teams bowl ineligible among the highest ranking teams, embarrassments like Penn State going to a bowl game, a 6-7 team going to a bowl game, and official records having to be re-written because of multiple recruiting violations. Yet, is the game more exciting today than it was twenty years ago, when bowl games were officially post-season exhibition games and we had to deal with the uncertainty of who really is the national champion?
There are times when this would screw the best teams in the country from playing for the National Championship. No thanks.
:-) Now that's college football baby!! I'd love to come down from Pennsylvania some year to see that game!
I think both FSU and Florida fans agree that any tapes of this year's game should have been immediately burned...that game set college football back 50 years.
Agreed, but some folks really can't stand the fact that the SEC dominates football. I don't like the BCS either, but the title game is between the top 2 teams this year.
Geaux Tigahs!
True dat!
Every division in college football except the BCS plays one of those “unworkable” playoffs...and makes it work. I’m biased because I went to an FCS school (James Madison, 2004 national champions) but it frosts me a bit that the boosters and administrations at the big Division I-A schools suddenly start talking about “conditioning” and “academics” when the subject of a playoff comes up. Meanwhile, kids in the lower divisions, almost none of whom have a shot at the NFL, are expected to play four or even five extra games to have a crack at a national championship, and nobody seems to mind. (By the way, when my JMU Dukes won their 2004 FCS championship, they had to win every playoff game on the road. How about that for some drama in the third and fourth weeks of December instead of yet another Generic Corporate Sponsor Bowl?)
Sixteen-team playoff, split it by conference however you like. Go back to 11-game regular seasons. Drop about half the crap useless early bowls and use those weekends to play the rounds of the championship, with the semis on New Years weekend and the finals the week after. Let the lower rounds be home games to the higher-seeded team and hold the semis and finals at neutral sites. Heck, even use two of the New Years bowls as the semi-finals and rotate it around every year.

Yeah VT doesn’t deserve a bid either.
The one SEC team that got screwed was Arkansas.
Yeah, indeed. ;p
Re: a playoff, I’d rather have the # 5 or # 9 team pissed off than the # 3 team.
Division 1A and 2 and 3 manage to handle playoffs. I do like the bowls cause it’s just more football to watch, even though many are stupid and feature crappy teams with no business in the postseason
But I have a different very radical idea, if you love tradition you’ll hate it. Get rid of the current conferences. They are silly anyway, Big “East” is adding Boise State and SAN DIEGO State. Big ten has 12, Big 12 has 10. Have good teams play only other good teams. Have relegation and promotion like they do with professional soccer in Europe. Then the regular season would be the playoffs and there would be no pointless games like LSU versus LA Tech or whatever. Something similar could be accomplished less radically by the good conferences kicking out their dreg teams and adding better teams in their place.
