Rahm Emanuel "Begged" Obama Not To Push Healthcare
SeeBS News ^ | 8/6/2011 | SeeBS

In his new book on President Obama's first year in office, "The Promise," Jonathan Alter includes a quote from the president's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, illustrating just how opposed Emanuel was to the president's push for comprehensive health care reform.

"I begged him not to do this," Emanuel told Alter, as detailed by the Washington Post's Greg Sargent, writing off advanced excerpts put out ahead of the book's release Tuesday. (Hotsheet just got its copy of the book and is planning to dig into it this weekend.)

The president overruled Emanuel, telling him, according to the book, that he "wasn't sent here to do school uniforms."

It definitely puts a damper on hiring, when employers don’t know what the cost of those new employees are going to be.

He's not talking merely about the election. Who did send him?

The following is from: Making It (from The New Yorker)

I met Mikva at the Cliff Dwellers, a private dining club atop a downtown office building. As we looked out over Lake Michigan, he told me a story that has often been repeated by others to capture the essence of politics in the city. “When I first came to Chicago, Adlai Stevenson and Paul Douglas were running for governor and senator,” he said. “I had heard about the closed Party, closed machine, but they sounded like such great candidates, so I stopped in to volunteer in the Eighth Ward Regular Democratic headquarters. I said, ‘I’m here for Douglas and Stevenson.’ The ward boss came in and pulled the cigar out of his mouth and said, ‘Who sent you?’ And I said, ‘Nobody sent me.’ He put the cigar back in his mouth and said, ‘We don’t want nobody nobody sent.’ ”

Who sent Obama?

It sounds as if as if Rahm is trying to revise history, distancing himself now that he sees how unpopular ObamaCare is with the general public. And this CBS piece asks us to believe his fairy tale.

Emanuel's purported objections back then contrast with his own brother, Zeke ("The Freak") Emanuel, being brought into the White House as the chief architect of the disastrous plan. Does anyone think that Zeke would have done what he did without Rahm's blessing?

And if Rahm had objections to it then, why isn't he coming out for repealing ObamaCare or making significant changes to it now or urging his fellow Democrats to do so?

Well, I don’t find it so outlandish that Rahm Emanuel eventually came to oppoae Obamacare and begged Obama to stop pushing it—after all, Rahm knew how to read polls. It wasn’t that Rahm was (or is) opposed to socialized healthcare, it was that he didn’t want the RATs to lose Congress, which is what ultimately happened.

Now for the good news.

Rahm's bro, Dr Zeke Emanuel, was spit-shining his penny
loafers when the subject of "O/Care death panels" surfaced.

JS93, your comment made SO much sense it had to be re-posted.

Rahm is a professional liar, and there is a whole lot of spin going on at all levels from this White House.

They know they have screwed the pooch, and now they are trying to cover tracks so more mischief can abound.

They are daring us to DO something about it.

We have to remember--THEY are insulated from what is happening now--we are the ones who will suffer.

No matter how innocuous and nerdy Zeke The Freak might appear, his socialist health care plans with their inevitable rationing and government death panels will kill many patients if implemented. That's been the story of socialized medicine everywhere it's been tried: Canada, the UK, Australia, etc., etc.

Zeke and others like him around the world are wolves in sheep's clothing.

He’s not the one who wrote this. Obamacare has been the most divisive thing since the Vietnam War and/or the Demwit Party. It cost them the House of Representatives in 2010, and will cost them both houses — and we hope the White House — in 2012.

Zeke The Freak?

Anyway, If true then old Rahmmy is smarter than he looks.

I don’t think Obama ever cared all that much about whether he would win a second term, he is out to effect as much nasty “change” as he can. Clinton listened after 94 and “triangulated” and went on to wipe the floor with Dole.

Obama has proven to be very far from a master politician.

If Obama didnt want to get re-elected he would have let all the tax cuts expire last year instead of agreeing to extend them all. He would have refused any deal on the debt limit. He didnt have an option to abandon Obama-care especially after a year tied up on it, that would not have got him re-elected. He had to pass something to call Health Reform and that he did.

No I mean of course he wants to win another term but it’s not his ‘prime directive’ I don’t think. Contrast with Clinton who would have sold his daughter into white slavery if it meant winning. ;p

I heard a prediction I believe. Obama will use his $50M to $80M of campaign funds to run the most negative campaign in history, to win. He has no choice now. Republicans need to create an attack around that :
"Hope and Change" is now "Hate and Crush"

Campaign money won’t decide 2012.

Carville was right.

All we need to do is keep it a 2-way race and Baraq is off to be a MSNBC commentator in Jan 2013.
